Matchstick Coffee Roasters in Fraserhood has raised the bar for my experiences in coffee shops overseas and is a standout for excellent coffee and great friendly service in Vancouver, albeit they can be extremely busy in the regular rushes, expect long lines at these times and occasionally the delicious baked goods can sell out. Their coffee menu is fantastic with usually no less than 5 single origin pour overs (chemex) to try and two rotating beans for espresso drinks. Never had a bad cup here. plus they have a pretty darn good food menu too if your feeling peckish. try the breakfast hash!!

Gone are the loaves of bread from Nelson the Seagull. But they still have lots of goodies to go with your coffee. The place is totally discovered and there are plenty of people that have found this cool coffee shop. The Strada is dialed in and the baristas are pretty darn good. That means that the coffee has gotten better than when they opened. They have a Diedrich Roaster in the back so its all there. So give it a go!

Flawless. Consistently good coffee--with new varieties frequently. Cappuccinos are consistently well crafted. Pinterest-approved interior design. "Third-wave" at it's finest. Now with 2 locations.

Nice feel to this cafe. Great service. Roast a little too bitter for me. Not a bad coffee though.

A little hard to find first time, but worth going to even though the address seems easy. They are at 15th and Kingsway. One you find it first time, its easy to get there again. I met Aaron one of the co-owners, and he was awesome nice. They have a great little place that serves great coffee. This is not one of these hustle and bustle places, so just come here and relax. In addition, they have some very good food to compliment your coffee and they adhere to local, and organic as some of their core food offerings. From here I was introduced to a fantastic local break maker in Nelson the Seagull. This is a great place run by really good guys.

Nice decor and atmosphere. Staff always had a smile and were nice to chat with. My espresso was under-extracted. I will definitely visit again with friends and hopefully have better luck with their espresso. Their Catalog roast is worth the visit in itself.

This is another great edition to a superb little neighborhood in development. A fantastically designed space that emits the care that was put into its creation (thanks to its owners you can see how it evolved online on the blog). However, the wooden top of the large communal table is not the only carefully curated component to Matchstick - of course there is the coffee. As a ridiculously (almost unreasonably) big fan of Phil & Sebastien's I was excited to find out they are one of the elite few to brew it in the city. As well as being excited to work my way through the other amazing roasters on their roster (I have always wanted to say this...) I was also delighted to see the large roaster at the back of the space. They confirmed that they will start roasting their own shortly. I am kind of loved and loathed to promote them (it is already hard to get a seat despite its out-on-limb-location) but I just think they have done such a fantastic thing that oozes craft and passion I had to say something!
