This place is worth going to for the donuts alone...but the caffeine hit is also a win. Macchiato came out strong and delicious but the way in which it was served was super lame. On a presentation board with a glass of water, unnecessary. The missus had a latte and it was good; strong, rich and creamy.
Super quaint shop that is linear in design. Smaller than one on Main. The scent of coffee is throughout and there is just is a good buzz. The baristas are friendly and not as rushed like the ones at their store on Main Street where the long lines press them to go from shot to shot without stopping. So here, I was able to have a bit of coffee talk and learn more about their beans, their brew profiles and what they thought the distinctiveness of certain beans were. That to me is always a good place to start before I take my sip. It gives me the service and friendliness aspect of the place. I like this place a lot. Especially if you are on 4th. It is a great stop to gas up and go again.
Piccolo latte without foam = Australian flat white served in a "tulip" cup. Pour is strong and sweet. Great for a morning starter. Presentation with water glass on a board is great. Style of cafe confusing mix of Vancouver country, industrial steel and pastel woods. Not sure of the planter boxes but the coffee is good.
Gets quite busy most of the time. I guess thats a great thing for the owners, but for someone who wants to spend some time to read a book alone or have some quite time, then try their other location (which is also quite busy, but bigger). Espresso are hit and miss depending on the barista. However, when done properly, their Epic Espresso is amazing. For "quality" coffee, 49th Parallel is a no-brainer.
A mere 10 minute ride away on the #4 bus from downtown Vancouver is 49th Parallel cafe. It's the biggest cafe I've visited in this city to date, clearly established to showcase their roasts. Espresso, drip and syphon available. I had a cappuccino of their signature "Epic" blend and an espresso of their organic offering. The latter was really great and drank as advertised whilst the cappuccino wasn't that flash. Not the best extraction and into a cold cup. No formal food offerings, pastries only. Classic "modern" fitout with dark chocolate wood tones and a sexy Mirage on the bench. The service was warm and sincere. My #3 in the 'couve.
