This review relates to The Good Bean Espresso Bar and not to the Old Bean. I had my early afternoon cappu there every day during my holidays. The cappu was very flavoursome and the barista did an excellent job. Also interesting to see the composition of the house blend being mentioned on the bag with Arabica beans from India, PNG, Brazil and Colombia. Also the cupping scores are mentioned.
Far from the old good bean. Years ago the good bean used to be my favourite coffee on the coast. Haven't quite kept up with the competition though. Today it seems to have lost its buzz and excitement. The place was empty. The coffee was not, but not special like it used to be. It's dropped from a 9 to a 6 for me.
I found this place on the way to Caloundra through a quick google search. When I knew they used Ona coffee, I was so excited. Unfortunately, they did not offer that on the day I visited, but the owner was very happy to chat and share information about coffee. The place was very busy but coffee was made quickly. I had Colombian single origin as espresso, which was really intense with strong caramelized orange flavour with citrus after taste and pleasant bitterness. My partner also enjoyed his flat white as the form was quite velvet-like and nicely textured and served at the good temperature. The lady barista was really friendly and vivacious. This place could be really busy, thus it might be hard to find a table.
Not impressed. I asked for my coffee to be extra hot and was advised that the hottest they could do was 60 degrees. I said I would like it around 80 degrees ( I know this is very hot but that is how I like it.) They said they would not do it that hot. I walked out and went to Gloria Jeans and they were very happy to make the coffee as I requested and my wife and I had a great coffee. I cannot understand the attitude of some businesses.
