Situated in an industrial part of the Sunshine Coast this place is miles from stunning beaches and hinterland. The positive is that you don't have to battle tourists or fight for parking. I ordered a double shot cap and it was velvety smooth for a double. No hint of bitterness at all. The coffee was excellent. The only slight criticism was that the milk was slightly under temp but having said that if have it under temp rather than burnt any day of the week. The barista was warm and welcoming however took quite a long time to be served and even longer to make the coffee. This was surprising given there was only me and 1 other in there. It wasn't a problem just an observation. The shop is an open warehouse with limited seating, no atmosphere and practically no food options. This is the only real negative of this place. Essentially it caters for the local industrial factories coffee hit in the morning. If this place was in a better location and some effort put into the design and style of the space it would be hard to beat.
Kai Coffee is something very special indeed. The Barista is equal parts friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. He never looks or acts rushed and gives his full attention to all his customers but is beautifully effective on the coffee output. Amazing. I enjoyed a fantastic piccolo here, one of the best, if not the best, I’ve ever had. I followed this with a flat white. It was incredibly good too. My wife had a mocha and she, unprompted by my enthusiasm for the place, said it was sublime. I’m going back tomorrow to buy some beans and try some pour overs. I don’t think I’ve ever given a 10 for a café but if any place deserves it, Kai definitely does. This is a must visit if you’re on the Sunshine Coast. And there’s a great brewery across the road too!
