To me, the combination of bookshop and cafe ought to be something close to heaven, though nobody seems to have it working quite right. This place comes close, though, with a simple but exquisite cafe section looking out onto a small but beautifully arranged bookstore. I particularly loved the fresh tulips and the candle in the window - small touches that made the place seem enticing even on a slow midweek morning. My espresso was well made, with good mouthfeel. It was all I needed from a coffee at that moment, without trying to change the world! The staff were friendly but unobtrusive, leaving us free to watch the snow outside, and appreciate the warmth and beauty of the space. I wouldn't make a special trip to come here, but if you're in the neighbourhood you wouldn't be disappointed.
