Having ordered a meticulously described double ristretto, we were served a more than acceptable first attempt by Labelle. It was smooth, aromatic and beautifully rich albeit a little viscous. Surprise, surprise... Labelle, not satisfied with her first offering, comes to our table with her second. WOW!!! Perfection. She had adjusted the grind and poured one of the best ristys ever. Full of flavour and as thick as oil without a hint of acidity or tarty aftertaste. Baristas like this are few and far between. Labelle is an ace worth following.
Liked the low ceiling, warehousey interior. Ate a nice pastry. The batch brew was pleasant and quaffable, if a bit bland. Wanted to take some beans home but was surprised and disappointed, given that it's also (quite visibly) a roastery, that it was a choice of house espresso blend or bust.
Stopped at Typika on the way home and was told that, for health a drink safety reasons, they couldn't use my keep cup. When I asked the attendant what the reasons were, he couldn't elaborate. Sounds absurd to me...and it will be my last visit, without a doubt!
