OK, I am a wanker. A coffee wanker in this case. I really enjoy a good coffee, happily walk / drive a fair way to get one, and love discussing coffee tastes like other discuss wine. I REALLY dislike it when a cafe is so arrogant that they 'do not serve ristretto'. And two days in a row this has happened to me in Perth, yesterday at Heroes and Architects in Subiaco, today here at Felix. I get that the barista thinks that the slightly longer pull makes his coffee taste better, and I very happily order both a espresso and a ristretto to taste that for myself. It always creates a great conversation about different methods, different tastes, different opinions. It creates an experience, and experiences tie people to places. The barista here at Felix used the argument that he does not like ristretto, and therefor he does not make it. Not for me to have a taste of both, happily paying for both, NO. Well, I do not like people this arrogant, so I am now enjoying a nice ristretto across the road, at Bourbar. Go there - dont go to arrogant Mr Felix.
blessed to have a cafe that consistently delivers near-religious experiences within a stones throw of my studio. an apt social venue too if you aren't claustrophobic or allergic to terrariums. the espresso dances on the tightrope between being feather-like and structured. always luscious, always rewarding.
A coffee bar, like any bar, needs a selection of drinks to suit the moods and palates of its patrons. Felix builds a strong menu of natural and washed filter and espresso coffees, with frequent rotation to satisfy the most avid and curious of coffee drinkers in Perth. Barista's share a knowledge in prep and execution to do the fine roasts served here justice.
called in to Felix last Thursday and was greeted by the friendly crew, on perusing the tempting selection from the brewbar menu I decided on the Ethiopian Duromina fully washed from the Djimma Region---wow with flavours of bergamot, peach and floral it was clean and sweet, a real treat for a coffee from this region--keep up the good work team Felix!!!
This place lives up to it's 'specialty coffee ' name. Love that they have a selection of single origins and blends to choose from everyday . Every coffee I've had from felix has been simply divine, really smooth with incredible flavour and is always served at the perfect temperature. Service is fantastic and the baristas are top notch
