Cafe by day, bar by night. From a group that runs trendy bars in Sydney. I like their lunch offerings. I like their coffee. I like sitting outside at the one table terrace. A true aussie experience in Paris. Especially good for those aussies who hang onto the belief that there is no good coffee outside of St Kilda or Surry Hills. But for the others, fear not, the coffee is good. They are running Brulerie Belleville beans which is a local french run Parisian roaster. They tend a little toward the french style of roasting (a la Lomi, Beans on Fire, L'Arbre, Terres de Cafe), but in the skilful hands of Lockwood they turn out a very nice, slightly punchy espresso or flat white. No bitterness detected in my visits. I was afraid it would be like a 90's Lavazza Latte from Melbourne, but was pleasantly surprised that they were definitely in the Third Wave Game. Speaking of L'Arbre du Cafe, their boutique is just around the corner if you have room on your palette for a comparative espresso taste test.
