Went in to The Handle Bar to get a filter coffee - had heard great things about the place and saw various brewing methods etc listed on the window. When I asked for it, the server told me insistently that what I wanted was an Americano - ‘filter coffee? Yes, black coffee! Hot water with a shot’. I tried to explain three times and left with an OK, but not good, Americano. Shan’t be going back, which is a shame as the interior was fab.
Well, the name has changed. It's now the Handle Bar if I recall correctly. It's expanded across the entire top floor as well. New food from the new kitchen is very good. There's a collection of bikes all over the place, including a wood and iron bike from 18-something! Great vibe, and best of all the same people run it and the coffee is still the best in Oxford, if not Oxfordshire!! Plus, they're operating as a bar/bistro type thing into the evenings - so great coffee is available until late! No, I have no connection to the owners, in case you're wondering. This place has just gone from strength to strength and I think it's worth letting fellow coffee snobs know. :) I've increase my ratings slightly to reflect the fact that there's more room, more food, and even better vibe to the place. Long may this business thrive!
Been coming here a while, and so far it's the best coffee I've found in the centre of Oxford. Service is good, staff are friendly. The cafe has recently been expanded from half the top floor to all of it. Cool decor, quite a collection of old (even ancient) bikes and a nice vibe. The coffee itself is smooth, and a mocha here is very nice. The food is good, too.
Visited this nice cafe after finding it on here and I'd say that the coffee was very good, I went back a second time during my weekend trip to Oxford. Lovely bean, presented well and milk done lovely. Only pain was that they don't do card payments even though they sell bikes. Odd that they can't extend their card facilities to the cafe. Friendly staff though. Would definitely go back!
