I am fortunate that Ninth Street Espresso is my "local" coffee bar. Their east side space---9th between C and D--is my favorite of their three locations. it filled with serious New Yorkers with few tourists. As I have been going to Ninth Street for years, I have had dozens of their cups--macchiatos, espressos, and cappuccinos. I am amazed at how consistant they are from barista to barista--though there are variations. For cups with milk, they know how to froth the milk to create micro bubbles and to blend the coffee with the milk. My only complaint (and a minor one) is their macchiatos are not "marked" with milk but are filled to the brim and Latte Art reigns. No matter what kind of coffee, the product is superb. The coffee is rich and complex. The taste makes your tongue tingle and one goes into sensory overdrive. I love how all their coffee lingers with you well after you have consumed your cup. I judge Ninth Street the best cup of coffee in the city.

A review is probably superfluous since this place is so highly regarded. The reputation is deserved. This is some of the best espresso I've ever had. Order a straight espresso or macchiato and drink it unsweetened. You'll experience a light, smooth flavor with no bitterness and even a slight natural sweetness. The buzz you get from a drink like this has no jittery quality. I think that the bitter alkaloids in a poorly pulled espresso are the cause of this feeling, not the caffeine. More research is needed on this theory;) but in any case the espresso at ninth st is a fine quality drug.

A great cafe, but was not high on my list of places in NYC to revisit. Have just changed from Stump town to intelligentsia coffee. Wanted to buy a few pounds to take home , but most were quite old. Good coffee never the less.

Ninth Street Espresso is one of the coffee worlds great destinations. The coffee there is nothing short of perfect and the place has a real local organic feel to it. They use Stumptown Coffee Roasters blends which are really smooth and full bodied. I was there on a cold winters day and the coffee warmed me up a treat. Word of warning, these guys are artesians and take serious pride in how coffee should be made so dont go asking for 'Skinny Soy Flat White with chocolate powder on top' as my work collegue did or you'll get this response 'Sorry man thats just not how we roll, you'll have to go somehwere else...' If your in NYC Ninth Street Espresso is one of the cities best and well worth a visit. Enjoy!
