Nice little surprise up in Emerald. Just off Main Street a really quaint, chilled vibe. Decent coffee options and Single Origin from Brazil was a treat (I had short MAC). Simple but great menu also. Definite recommendation if your up this neck of the woods.
Best cafe in the area if not Melbourne. The coffee is great, the food is awesome and the decor and atmosphere make you want to sit in there all day. Only downfall is its not big enough and sometimes can be hard to get a table. But you know what they say... all good things are worth waiting for. At the general you can tell they are all about serving great fresh food and delicious coffee. My mum and sister love this cafe so much some weekends they go for breakfast and then back for lunch! The house made gluten free bread is amazing as is the gluten free muesli. Worth traveling for but don't tell everyone!!
Has to be one of the best cafe's in the Dandenong ranges and beyond. The staff are friendly and efficient, the menu is unique and always changing and they make fantastic coffee! These guys can handle a flat out cafe and still deliver a consistently brilliant cup. I went in today during Emeralds PAVE festival and saw them working so well at full capacity, simply had to write a review. A must-visit cafe.
Not a bad little cafe. Had some delightful poached eggs which were a rich golden and flavoursome on sour dough. Love their use of space in the kitchen and the passion to local products and stock other small business products. The coffee was reasonable, but was expecting more since they were using jones milk and supreme coffee beans.
When I first moved into the area I was worried about leaving Melbourne cafe culture behind. Fortunately, these fears were unfounded as proved when I found myself in The General Food Store. This cafe is instantly inviting, with warm staff and a clean and simple interior. Pegboard-covered walls display fresh loaves and fine produce as well as information on vegetable planting periods and local farmer's markets. The tiny display case houses an impressive array of baked goods that always set my mouth to watering. The barista treats the coffee with respect; my latte was full of flavour without the bitterness and the milk was finely textured, if a little hot. They have single origins on rotation; the Ethiopian was beautifully extracted with bright acid but a smooth finish. Definitely the best coffee I've found in the area and Dougie prepares some amazing dishes to match! Think waffles with apple and curd or a delicious pulled-pork roll. The General Food Store has become my week-end regular and would easily hold it's own against any cafe in Melbourne. Worth the trip!
