I tried this place out today. The atmosphere is more like a restaurant than cafe. A lot of people were getting food and drinks, not so much coffee. My cappuccino was ok. The froth was passable, but the coffee itself was quite hot. Hot to the point where I had to leave it for a moment to cool. After it had cooled a bit, it wasn't too bad. Definitely not great, but not so bad that I had to put sugar in. Staff were nice. Seemed friendly.
In all the time I've lived in Hawthorn, this place has changed owners too many times. What once was Toto was then La Giarra, then Isa Brown and now Rococo. Perhaps the rent is too much here, or perhaps the old businesses just didn't run well. What I can tell you is that Rococo is packed for Lunch and Dinner. The menu has a nice assortment of antipasti, pizza, pasta and a few Italian mains. Service was pleasant and quick, and the atmosphere open and bright. At night time the tables are covered with white linen and look much more pricey! The strong latte I ordered was full bodied and smooth. Quite nice actually. Order a coffee after your next lunch -- you won't be disappointed.
