Very good service and pleasant surrounds - but the coffee! Ordered 3 3/4 length double shot lattes with my friends. All were different strengths and mine far to weak and milky. They need to invest in some Barista training - very unusual to get this low standard in Melbourne.
Have been a few times and usually the service is quite warm and friendly but not today. The menu and food quality here is the drawcard, but don't come for the coffee. It's OK but I'd imagine McDonalds a few doors down would be able to better it. Wait staff - if you're not interested in being at work, find another job.
Niche don't advertise themselves as a café, more a restaurant/bar – but they are open for breakfast, so a friend & I went there to check them out. The setting is quite nice and modern, and felt quite open even though it was overcast outside and there wasn't an abundance of light inside either. Wasn't amazingly impressed with the food we had – the bircher muesli I ordered was served in a glass. Whether it was visually appealing is up for debate, but it made it very difficult to eat, and I didn't finish it. The coffees we had were pretty standard café fare – not burnt, competently made, but definitely lacking the "something extra" that I've come to expect from the best places in Melbourne. A bit on the expensive side. I won't be going back there for breakfast or for coffee, but their dinner food looks nice and the bar area looked well-appointed and nicely furnished.
