Mitte, positioned in the "middle" of a quiet intersection in Fitzroy North has the location and atmoshpere which reflects that of a calm relaxed morning. I ordered my usual flat white and as always it leaves me content with my morning, well balanced and flavoursome. Service was of a high level, attended to immediately and served within 3 mins. Very favourable "chilled" experience.
I was in here the other day with a friend. I started with a short mac and sat outside. The service was ok until then. The short mac started well. Very rich and smooth. It was a bit watery though. I sat outside for a while with a menu and having finished my short mac. There seemed to be no staff around. The two who had been inside seemed to have disappeared and were replaced by one bloke. The poor guy had the task of taking orders, making a few coffees and trying to look after everyone. He was a bit busy. After I had popped my head inside and asked to order, he came outside and ordered. My friend then arrived and so did the food. The sandwiches were quite good! My cappuccino was non-descript. Not necessarily in a bad way, it was just standard. It could probably have been better. Over all the service could improve, but otherwise it's a fairly nice cafe.
Started with a latte, which had a very watery / weak consistency. Probably one of the worst I can remember recently. This did not inspire the confidence to try a espresso :( Food was average cafe fare; the two egg dishes for our table were dry. Pancakes were tasty though. Staff perfunctual in their duties, nothing more. Hate to write bad things, but after hearing a couple of friends rave about this place, I was very underwhelmed.
Cycled down at Easter, thankfully they were open. Sat outside and was completely ignored by one staff member till another came out to take my order. Strong FW came out fast, way quicker then last time I was here. A bit too hot for me but it cooled quickly in the breeze on the footpath. Tastes a little bitter, not quite up to standards in the area but not bad either. Food was great, cinnamon and rhubarb bread with poached pear and labna. Also came out quick. Ordered another regular strength FW, this was even hotter, as in burn my mouth hot. But much smoother then the first. A good place for eating and passable coffee. The wait here was good this time but I've had far longer before. Nice outside seating though.
