I have been visiting Focus coffee on a monthly basis in the morning for work meetings. I liked the open space making it ideal for casual meetings and they made great juice (love the pink juice). Unfortunately over the last several visits my colleagues and I have been treated quite poorly by an Asian man. I believe he is the owner as he I could hear him shouting out instructions to the other staff in Cantonese (I am able to understand Cantonese). Initially when we first visited the Asian man would greet us but recently he basically ignores us and quite reluctantly takes our orders. On our last visit which was early Jan 2018, we requested to change to a 6 seat table as we were sitting in a 4-seat one. The Asian man again was seemingly annoyed or unhappy with our request and simply stared at us for a good 5 seconds until one of the other staff attended to us. After this and many prior passive-aggressive and unwelcoming exchange, though the juice is quite nice, sadly we will not be returning again. Hoping that Focus will look into this and make changes as required.
I love visiting Focus everyday. I can’t have dairy or soy milk, so I have an almond milk latte every day and it is the best of any I’ve ever had. Quite often the almond milk coffees can split, but this is always creamy and delicious. It’s not on my way to work or kinder drop off, but I always back track the other direction to buy my coffee here. On at-home days I walk the kids every day and seeing Karen and Ken is the best way to start a morning, especially if the baby has had a hard night- they are so funny and friendly. I’m so grateful that we’re always welcome there and that Karen will give my baby a nice cuddle and my son a couple of marshmallow treats. Cafes like this are an important part of creating a community, which is important for young families like mine. :)
Has Focus changed hands? Went there today and it was chaos. Yes they were busy but there appeared to be no system to ordering, staff were stressed although there were quite a lot of them for the size of the cafe. I eventually went to till to order in spite of being told it was table service, and abandoned the whole enterprise when one of the staff yelled at a customer to get out of her cafe. There was no obvious misdemeanour to those of us standing around. He was gobsmacked. We left. Bad vibe, not sure about the coffee.
