An appealing little cafe sat in the Barton Arcade. Classy decor. An almost well presented double espresso. The tin tray looks a bit budget to be honest. Probably better to serve with a wooden tray or even a saucer. Service was not great as I waited 10 mins sat alone even though I said I was coming in for a coffee on my own. Waitress was very pleasant and apologised for the wait so that helped. Coffee itself is a little bitter for my taste and served slightly hot - maybe brewed to high? Still a decent drink.
I'm comparing this to Federal as I think that's the #1 in Manchester. Coffee was every bit as nice. The have a coffee menu which needs exploring further. The greater range of coffee is definitely a plus. I liked the feel and atmosphere of Federal which I liken to a New York style coffee shop, relaxed but a bit of hustle. PKB is definitely a quieter space which will definitely appeal more to a lot of people. I marked the service down a point, not because of the service but because I felt the food offering at Federal has a bit more variety and thought it should be represented somewhere. Service was great. I ate the breakfast Muffin which is a chorizo sausage, egg, cheese and tomato relish muffin. It was a really great thing, I can't fault it.
Newly renovated, this cafe is a nice spot for a coffee in Manchester. All the usual types of coffee and a small selection of food. The flat white I had was very nice. We didn't try them but the cakes and brownies looked great and people were ordering breakfast while we were there. They now have a take away window as well as the main cafe. It is also now table service, so no need to order up at the bar.
