If you are after a nice single origin like an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe don't come here. I drink either espresso or long blacks and I've had this variety of coffee from a dozen different roasters and this was the worst coffee I've had since having no other choice but to drink the hotel filter coffee in Vientiane Laos. They should be ashamed of the way this coffee was made. We took one sip and told the staff member to throw it away as it was over extracted and tasted burnt. He apologise that it wasn't to our standard but no offer of a refund.

I'm not usually a fan of Merlo (in cafes, they must murder the beans) but this place is amazing! When you walk in the smell of the freshly roasted beans is magical. I buy my beans here- and when you buy beans they give you a complimentary coffee. Doesn't get any better than that!

Busy place with plenty of food options nearby. Coffee is usually good although if you offer a cappuccino it will be flooded with chocolate and be too sweet to drink. I also ordered an americano and after explaining to the batista what it was, emded up with an undrinkable coffee.

Coffee overall is the best and most consistent I have found. Try bean of the month for something new and if not the New Guinea or Columbian beans are quality. Never had a bad coffee here as it has such a turnover it is always fresh. So much variety you could always find one different to try. Great price too. Busy busy busy....

Well well's been a long time since I visited Merlo at Ferry Road. Thanks to a move to New Farm! Stopped in here and things seemed as busy as usual. New faces behind the machines but the enticing smell of fresh roasting coffee hasn't changed. The coffees here on my prior visits had ranged from awesome to very average, but what never fails is the friendliness of the staff, their bean knowledge and the great value if you buy beans, get your free coffees! Today I have to say the coffee was nice, a tad weaker than I've had here in the past. Hubby's skinny was looking darker and more robust in colour. Overall it was a pleasant coffee, but by far not as good as I have had. We got a little biscotti on the side. The finishing flavour was a tad bitter?
