I absolutely love Commune. I’m fully a regular. Good food, good vibes, good coffee. But there are some areas that could use improvement: 1. My favourite drink, the cold brew, is sometimes excellent, sometimes not. Consistency would be epic. 2. Music pumping constantly. Please guys - acoustic vibes needed! Especially bright and early. We want to rest and digest, not rave and bounce while we eat and sip our lattes. 3. It takes ages to wait for an açai bowl. Everyone else will have finished their meals while the açai folk are still waiting to be served theirs. All in all though it’s worth the wait, and Commune is still my favourite cafe on the Gold Coast.
Awesome little cafe hidden just off the Gold Coast Highway down from Burleigh Beach. The staff and place hum with a really fun energy that's pretty hard to resist. They also seem to know everyone who was in there which is always encouraging. It's all counter service and when ordering an espresso they suggested I try their current single origin (Tanzania!) which was served with a little card that gave me some context for what it should taste like (butterscotch, chocolate, malt) which was delicious and very distinct from what I'm used to drinking. I was also able to order a filter coffee made with a mochamaster which was a different single origin again (Peru this time). It was brewed fresh and came with another tasting card. It was clearly a lighter roast and beautifully juicy and fruity. Breakfast was also a very generous serving and extremely tasty. These guys set an example to emulate.
Service was great. 1st coffee came out and she knocked it so straight away she took it back for a new one. I knew then it was worth the wait. Perfect latte strong bodied with the perfect head. Breakfast was amazing. But 2nd latte came out like a flat white and could tell it was made by a different barista. Plus the shady trees were cooling in the hot sun. Only problem is the highway is right on top of you.
