Overall, a disappointing visit. The staff wasn't particularly friendly, which I can generally overlook if the coffee is great. Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't great. Had a roast from Herkimer pulled from their Synesso machine and had high hopes. Mediocre at best. Both the espresso and the seltzer water cups smelled like dirty dishwater that ruined the aroma of the coffee. I like the setting and decorations of the shop, but I'm a coffee guy and the coffee wasn't good.
One of the first boutique coffee houses in Denver, Noah the owner has been in the coffee scene for a while. My baristas Benton and Logan are coffee geeks that know coffee and know how to dial in their Synesso. I enjoyed our discussions at the counter. They gave me tips on some of the latest coffee places to try. The place was well occupied and comfortable. They also have a decent menu of food items to go with the coffee.
I like this shop. Its very well designed and decorated. I cant say that I ever had a drink their (which i probably should have before writing a review about it) But I have been there. I did compete against Noah in a Latte art throwdown once. He s a real nice guy and his drinks sure do look good. Its an experience to see this shop and he does a good job of promoting education of the coffees he offers. Also, I like that he carries different roasters in his shop
Crema is one of the few (very few) high quality neighborhood coffee shops I've found in Denver. The shop focuses clearly on espresso-based drinks but also offers some very nice french-press option. Nice fresh Novo beans and a Rancilio machine are put to use by Noah in fine fashion, resulting in top-notch latte's and espresso. Rag-tag but comfortable seating for conversation and snacks - service isn't the fastest I've ever had, but I'm happy to wait 30sec more for top-quality product. Smooth extraction, not bitter or burnt and accompanied by some vegemite and avocado toast it was a fantastic start to the day. If the Pop Rocks toast is available give it a try, it is another great adventure for your mouth. Don't let the somewhat main street it is on or doubts about the area deter you, when in Denver and looking for a truly good coffee, don't miss Crema.
