I arrived - I left - went here on Anzac Day, basically they have had a makeover cool looking place, comfy seating, but menu favourites have almost disappeared before my eyes, all my favourites gone. You lost me when you decided to add a public holiday Surcharge on Anzac Day. My ravenous friend and I left and went straight to our reliable Arriva - no surcharge- - Sorry guys but the make over was to no avail, the food choices just too out there for me. The coffee was never much but the desserts were just great and main meals very good. I often lazed around here on weekends. But sorry we have to part ways. And I notice the hours for trading have markedly shrunk. To make money you actually need to be open for business!
oh dear.....as this is just up the road from us and has such a pretty fresh fitout. We decided to try our luck again at the Moray. oh dear.....coffees have not improved, in fact I think it has got worse. No care what so ever in the results in the cup. Even to the point of the young girl bringing my coffee out slopped in to the saucer and saying 'oh sorry I spilt it in to your saucer, do you want another saucer?' argh! I should have said 'no, I want another coffee - because even then it was obvious this overfilled cup was pasty pasty weak. No care in the extraction or process of this coffee. It was watery weak, just a very poor cup. :(
Well, I have to say that it seems to be a bit hit and miss here lately????? Used to be pretty consistant, but the last few weeks :/ Coffee I got the other morning made by 'blonde female' barista....was undrinkable. I don't often leave a coffee 3/4 full. But this sadly was so weak and tasteless, no crema, overfilled (which really irks me) and just a slap dash effort with the pour. I believe that the Moray is related to Reverends??? Which I hope is not true, because if it is, they really need to get down here and deal with the quality of the coffee. :( A crying shame in this fabulous location.
So moving back to New Farm nearly four weeks ago, and I am slowly reaquainting myself with old fave's and newbies. Got a couple of takeaways from the Moray this morning and must agree with a prior review, so: "Ordered an espresso and it was little below par but maybe the barista was used to creating milk based coffees. No crema and the taste was a little too watered down. However, I have never tried Reverends coffee so it could a mellow blend" However we ordered milk based coffees and got the same result as the review above, below par, no crema and very milky and mellow. So a bit disappointing.
It has been a while since I had been to this cafe so I was looking forward to visiting it again. It has a nice corner position where you can watch all the happenings in New Farm. Ordered an espresso and it was little below par but maybe the barista was used to creating milk based coffees. No crema and the taste was a little too watered down. However, I have never tried Reverends coffee so it could a mellow blend. My colleague got a flat white and told me that hers was ok. The food is quite good and worth it just for that.
Best breakfast in Brisbane and pretty good coffee too. After Alibi Room dropped scrambled tofu I thought I'd never see it again but here it is - yummiest comfort breakfast going. The home made beans is also top stuff. And a great corner. Get there early and sit outside when the weather is smiling
