Sean at Coffee away is a legend at making coffee. The coffee was high standard and right temperature for me. It's only little on street takeaway coffee, but has been bags to sit in on a sunny day and table to stand at. It's funky atmosphere and friendly helpful staff added to the experience. Well done Deanna for employing people who are friendly and like their job!
Great hole in the wall place, with a couple of benches and nice cushions outside. Coffee is good and solid, no highs no lows. The double espresso was smooth. Staff is friendly and enthusiastic :). No problem ordering without a lid etc. Minor improvement options (now I'm nit-picking) a small take-away cup for espresso would be great vs. the standard size.
While I can't dispute that this is the best coffee in town...That really isn't saying much. let me paint a picture for you. I ordered a strong small (8oz) latte. The batista loaded the basket with coffee then essentially waved the tamp over the top. The shot poured in about 18 seconds. While this was happening she had a jug of milk sitting streaming without paying any attention to it. The end result was a burnt coffee with burned milk and they were using some top beans as well!
Coffee Away - St Helens Well today fans I found another one of those rare “Hole-in-the-Wall” dispensers of liquid magic known as great coffee. Right in the centre of St Helens I bought a large flat white to-go in a large Keep Cup and started to sip it on the way back to the van (RV). After tasting the full flavoured brew which had a slight “muddy” taste I decided that I must return and speak to the owner and take a photo. The owner of Coffee Away is Marika, a very personable young woman. She's a local who set this business up in 2012. I hope that the locals know what a gem they have here. A well deserved score of 9/10 from me!
