My local while on the clock. This café’s system for queuing their orders is haphazard and often sees patrons served their coffees out of line during peak periods. I’ve boycotted it for stretches over the last couple of years for that very reason. However, I inevitably cave in and forgive them at some stage as the coffee consistently delivers. I’ve sampled a range in my time. The milk based drinks exhibit the best of the rich and brooding elements of the Ona beans and their senior baristas rarely fail to extract sublime fruity notes from the espressos. Service is generally of a very high calibre, though the atmosphere struggles to transcend the office tower vibe.
It was a reasonable couple of beverages for me and my wife today. I really enjoy that the black coffee was single origin from Honduras. Great caramalisation and acidity to help coat the tongue. I noticed the barista weighed the dose which is great to see. Brew ratio keeps the flavor I the cup. I did find hints of ash flavortowards the end of the cup. My wife's Latte made with mocks blend was well presented but did not provide enough flavor. I really like the north facing aspect of the café.
To its credit, the milk took a back seat and let the coffee do the talking. A robust, lasting flavour but lacking in complexity. I'll reserve further judgement until I've tried one of their syphon or cold drip offerings. The large, commercial space is made somewhat more inviting by a decent use of lighting, and the service from register to machine was fast, friendly and genuinely engaging.
