Stopped in recently for breakfast. I have been going to Single Guys for years. I have seen two sets of owners and two locations. The food range has improved with the new kitchen. The coffee has maintained the same high standard during the move, despite the change to a San Remo Cafe Racer machine. Partly because of the use of Parallel Roasters beans but mostly due to the dedication of the baristas at Single Guys. My Eggs Benedict was excellent. Even better was my latte. Well extracted and the milk was textured perfectly.
Every time I go the coffee is perfect - they also use real chocolate for cappuccinos which makes such a nice change. It’s always busy and for breakfast I love sitting in as the service is quick. However it’s also great for a takeaway and have never been disappointed with the food/drinks.
This is a local café and I have been going to it for years through several owners. Despite a recent turnover of their baristas, I go there because they serve high-quality often micro lot single origin coffees, generally a different one each week and I have always found the coffee consistently good with the main variation being the different styles of different baristas. They appear to strive for quality and consistency with good grinders and La Marzocco machine, well trained baristas and high quality coffee, mainly from Parallel Roasters at Sumner Park. They often have different singles for filter and expresso coffee. The recent Ethiopian single was a classic Yirgacheffe with blueberry muffin fruit flavours and a joy to drink even as a flat white.
Used to work in the area and heard lots of good things about this place but never went. Finally visited and ordered a long black with cream, but they had no cream(wtf?!? although this is strangely common with cafes for some reason and I don’t know why). Decided to order a cold brew which was really nice but I was really looking forward to a long black. The lady there obviously saw my disappointment with not getting what I ordered and brought my partner and I a complimentary coconut slice which was delicious and made up for the lack of cream.
I’ve heard a lot about the Single Guys but have never been in the area to check them out. Today all I had time for was a take away Flat White. The lady taking my order was friendly and succinct. While I waited for my order I observed that the place was practically full of customers and there was a nice chill vibe happening. My coffee was the perfect temperature and texture. I’m not sure what beans they used but they produced a beautiful tasting drink. It’s definitely worth a second visit for sit down drink and eat!!!
