Anzac Day was my first visit to this place. I was sceptical due to the low score but love to try new things and thought I’d give it a shot. The espresso surprised me. Very nice and smooth. It was absolutely delicious, and I think it give the competition just down the road a real good run for its money. Velvety and well made. Great job.
The Rare Pear continually shows up in 'best of brisbane' lists when searching for a place to eat online. We were searching for something hardy and full service meals as opposed to smaller helpings at small espresso bars etc, so we travelled more than usual to get there. First up, both meals we ordered were fantastic. All components were there, tasty, well presented and ultimately worth the extra coupla dollars. Service and atmosphere were passable for a Monday. (yes, open 7 days thank you) Di Bella is used which isn't my personal favourite. I ordered a flat white, but mentioned it to be on the warmer side if possible. Taste was well balanced and I could drink straight away. Ticks. Some more attention or training maybe would come in handy though. (and this should go for many baristas): a flat white is not a latte or cap in a different cup or without choc powder - it is called a flat white for a reason - next to no froth! Tastes on food and coffee are there. But as this side isn't cantered on the food side, the overall score will be lower. I will return for their food.
I loved going here... Three years ago... The coffee is hit and miss, the food nice but overpriced in such a competitive market and access is a pain. When it's good it's worth parking half a block away, but I've been let down of late and it's just easier to drive on by.
