Alex is certainly a most charming and attentive barista. The immediate surroundings radiate an interesting atmosphere ... In the cafe one can forget that Australia had no coffee culture until relatively recently. Alex is a great example of cultural fusion: a Chinese barista introducing the aussie blokes to coffee... he manages the impossible
I honestly think place serves the best espresso and long blacks in the Hendra/Ascot/Hamilton area. I've lived in the area for some time now and after growing tired of the sound albeit overrated and overpriced coffee at Dandelion & Driftwood, I stumbled upon the Brickhouse Cafe. A unique blend of coffee paired with realistic pricing (double espresso $3), the Brickhouse also has a selection of fine/exotic teas.
I went to the Brickhouse with a large group. The cafe was an annex of an antique shop. Lots of antique and bric-a-brac welcome you. They serve a limited selection of baked stuff, which I unfortunately could not try because I had already had big breakfast. My girl friend said carrot cake she had, was really moist and tasty. The young barista and lovely girl behind the counter were so welcoming, pleasant and attentive. Coffee was delivered with smile. Unfortunately, coffee here was not so good as I had expected. Many of members in the group said it tasted way too bitter. I kind of expected that from my past experience of Abrisca coffee, so I ordered long black. I guess Abrisca is true to the tradition of Italian coffee, so often tastes really bitter that easily overpowers other flavours of coffee itself. My long black tasted good enough though. Other than coffee, the Brickhouse offers everything I expect from good cafes: a nice and friendly service, welcoming atmosphere and good cake.
