Very average coffe . only a few places in Brisbane can actually do a good soy . its not hard . young guy with glasses served me ok achingly painful service . smile or greet people or dont work there if u cant muster up a bit of personality . another average experience in Brisbane .
After 3 or 4 visits, Mr Rush, you're almost dropped. You've got to do more. You've got to acknowledge people when they enter instead of ignoring them while you do your prep, or catering, or whatever you so intensely do when there's only one person in your shop. You have potential - a nice, interesting space; a quirky name. But you are achingly ordinary. Your coffee's OK, but your in Brisbane's coffee epicentre and OK don't cut it. The cakey-muffiny things I've seen on the counter don't cut it either. Now I see other reviewers have praised your baked goods, so maybe things have changed since my last visit. I certainly note you have increased your street presence with some plastic chairs and umbrellas. I don't want to be too harsh - I really don't, but I'm spoiled for choice in this area. I won't write you off because I like the 'idea' of Mr Rush and his potential to add to the local scene. Fourth time maybe lucky!
I don't know how many times I have walked or driven past here? Today we decided to stop and try the coffee and sit down inside. It is a suprisingly lovely big space downstairs, with a lot of character and choice. Near the windows, in the sofa seating alcove. Damn nice :) There is a really interesting range of yummy looking goodies to eat, savoury and sweet. And a fair bit of it looks made on site. Nearly tempted to snatch a couple of the bite size egg muffiny/tarty things on the counter top...but instead went for the mini lime meringue tart and a mocha one for hubby. Coffees took a wee while, but they were pretty busy and we got a genuine apology when they were brought out. Staff are friendly and relaxed. They use a Mr Rush Merlo blend and it was a really beautiful and well rounded cup of coffee. Smooth with a lovely lingering flavour. Perfect temp, good crema. No fancy latte art, but just a solid and lovely cup of coffee. Hubby said he couldn't fault his. So though you may go past this and see the street service window and get the impression it is a takeaway coffee or sit on the street joint....there is a lot more going on inside. So take the time, go in and downstairs...it's a place you could linger a hour or so. :)
Probably the most consistently delicious coffee in Teneriffe and the staff are lovely. They offer really satisfying muffins, sourdough toast, and a range of surprising treats like homemade fudge and lolly snakes! Inside is cosy and always quiet and the takeaway window is so convenient. I love this place.
