Our cafe is a quality focussed business using Mecca Coffee as our house blend and sourcing from other quality Australian roasters for our feature coffee and filter coffee. We source our ingredients from other like-minded businesses such as Maleny Dairies for milk, Heirloom for all things chocolate and our sister cafe Bunker for Iced drinks. We have a daily selection of fresh baked pastries and cakes and the cafe is located in the heritage listed John Mills Himself building. We can be a little hard to find: you can reach us via the driveway at 55 Elizabeth St, or walk through to the back of the buildings basement level from 40 Charlotte St.
This was a must try based on reviews and ratings. To be frank I'm disappointed. After navigating the vowels of the building a bit like finding Tutankhamens tomb we were greeted by friendly knowledgable helpful staff. Requested slightly cooler temp for Bonsoy. (Bonsoy and some alt. mills don't come out well with hotter temperatures) Coffee served was way too hot, waited for it to cool but temperature through me off looking at other flavour aspects. On leaving I told staff temp was way hot vis-a-vis my order so it didn't work for me. It really shouldn't be up to me to ask for another one (at no cost) so I didn't ask and I wasn't offered. I probably should go back to try again, but you know what there are too many other highly rated cafes to consider. I liked the drop down pendant vintage glass lights. They diffuse light better than the ridiculous trend of exposed filament bulbs. Owners of cafes with filament bulbs are sheep following a trend that will b gone in a year or 2.
Labrynth-like entrance to this regulars cafe bar - it's not a place you'll just stumble upon, and even its signage leaves you wondering whether to go upstairs or downstairs. I admire the staffs knowledge and enthusiasm for their brews, of which there are several, but the coffee itself was average for me. The plusses here outweigh my first experience and I'll be back to try again.
