Second time I have been here and not great. The coffee is ok but service is poor. First visit I had a bagel which was barely toasted and had a scraping of cream cheese. Today asked for my raisin toast to be well toasted, which it wasn't, and it had a scraping of butter. Doesn't everyone know raisin toast has to have lots of butter? 😊 Coffee in a pinch - food, no.
Ok went here yesterday as I was at the markets early and thought I would give them another try. I walked up and waited, being the only one there, and the 2 people behind the counter were both on there phones not paying attention. After waiting a while I said hi and they both started paying attention. After an auspicious start the service was good. The coffee was at a very drinkable temperature but the bean was a little burnt. Much better then my last experience but still not a great coffee.
Directly opposite Davies Park on Montague Rd, resides the baby version of the Garage at Southbank. I say the baby version because it is a smaller coffee place with more limited food selection than its Southbank sibling. The coffee blend is the same – Super Brazil, the Genovese flagship blend – in both locations, however the atmosphere is less colourful. Although one order was mucked up (we were the only ones there at the time), I must say we enjoyed our individual cups. The Espresso Garage delivered a good solid cup that was easy to drink and left no bitter after taste or the need to hit the water post consumption. However, the coffee doesn’t really excite the palette as other coffee shops closer to the heart of West End might.
