As a visitor from Australia looking for a flat white on a warm Sunday morning in Berlin, Röststätte appealed as one of the few rated places that was open. Unfortunately, like just about everywhere else we tried in Berlin, the coffee was almost offensively bitter and strong by Australian standards – so close to undrinkable in Röststätte's case I didn't finish the cup. It seems to be the way people like their specialty coffee in Germany. A few other places I went to said robusta beans are needed in the blend for milk coffees because the flavours of pure arabica are drowned by the addition of milk. This is a very strange theory to my coffee-drinking palate. Anyway, apart from the coffee, the vibe was pleasant enough, but they didn't win points for order and pay at the counter.
