Agree with Nick. Good by Beijing standards. Very average by Aussie standards. Latte was weak. Perhaps order a strong. Nice ambience and food.

Decided to check this one out after we ran out of beans for the Aeropress one lunchtime. The atmosphere is certainly quite nice, and the service is pretty good, but this is beanhunter - not atmosphere hunter. The coffee is unremarkable. I'm really surprised by the other reviews that rate this against Aussie cafes. I think it's a loooong way off and only marginally better than Starbucks. My latte was weak and thin. Pretty sure no Wondermilk here. My colleague's dbl espresso was "not worth the walk".

A cappuccino here is probably as close as what you can get in the above average shops in Australia. The only problem I found is that to have a coffee made your own personal taste is difficult because of my inability to speak chinese. The atmosphere is quite relaxing and the service is also very good

Great coffee- had a smile on my face from the first sip. I had two lattes that were perfect strength, though the second was hotter than I usually like. I have been living in shanghai for 8 weeks and now visiting Beijing and was really missing a good all day breakfast that wasn't a typical American or English style. Great menu Poached eggs and the like plus a decent sized lunch menu. The open kitchen enhances the atmosphere I like the way you could here how the kitchen operated. This place delivered. Well done.

The Village Cafe is tucked away inside the lobby of the contemporary hotel, The Opposite House in Sanlitun. The area is known for its many embassy's, plethora of fine dining options and great shopping. The design of the cafe is very simple, clean lines with a view of the open kitchen where you can catch a glimpse of the Australian head chef and his team. The brunch/ lunch menu offers some delicious western fare, poached eggs with asparagus and hollandaise, as well as the odd Asian twist in the way of a Vietnamese omelette with pork and mint. After searching for a decent coffee over the past few weeks, I was really surprised as to how great the coffee was here. The roast is medium to full bodied, the portion size was spot on, it was the right temperature and the flavour was heavenly. Eager to return.
