Origo is a specialty coffee oasis in the desolate lands of Eastern Europe. Rocking anfims and a simonelli, the espresso is deliciously balanced and well prepared, as is the wide range of filter coffee. The Kenyan aa I had as a v60 was beautiful - bright and juicy with a delicious cacao undertone and after taste. I really can't recommend this place highly enough if you're in bucarest - as a bonus it turns into a cocktail bar at night!
Hugh reviewed The Village
Seriously, what that guy said. This place is amazing! Some of the best coffee I've had while I've been in Europe (and trust me, I look for it). I pretty much lived here the few days I was in Utrecht, the guys who own it are super cool, there's great music and most importantly, superb coffee. Go here. It's good.
Hugh reviewed Full Court Press
Excellent specialty coffee in the heart of Bristol - the map address above is wrong, FPC can be found at 59 Broad Street. Delicious offerings from rotating roasters, espressos are pulled off a Strada and the brew bar is kitted out with an uber boiler and varios for filter coffee. Highly recommend popping in and having a chat with the guys, they're super friendly and knowledgable.
Hugh reviewed The French Press
Popped in on our way through town today, staff were friendly, coffee was great! Theyre using a marzocco paired with 3 mazzers, and filter coffee is offered as batch brew or individual french press (both tasty!) Definitely worth stopping if you're doing the drive from LA to San Fran, the good coffee is attached to a great little town, making a great respite from the open road!
Hugh reviewed Mecca Espresso (Ultimo)
My uni local - seriously worth checking out if you're at uts/ultimo tafe. By far the best coffee in the area - milk coffees are smooth and silky and blacks generally well balanced. The atmosphere is cool and the staff friendly!
Hugh reviewed Paradiso Cafe Restaurant
Octavian makes a banging coffee, my favorite in the neutral bay area. The atmosphere is perhaps a little lacking, but the excellent coffee more than makes up for it. I've ears good things about the food and it looks spectacular when I've been there, but I haven't personally tried it. All up, highly recommended!
Brilliant coffee! I pretty much lived at intellegentsia for the 3 nights I spent in Chicago, I tried their pour over, syphon, chemex, espresso, long black and a piccolo latte, all of which were superb. The staff are friendly and easy going and the cafe is stylish but not pretentious. Highly recommended!
Some of the best coffee I've had in Europe!! Such a cool chilled out little cafe adjacent to a print shop (hence the name) selling a bunch of local artsy stuff. I had a Colombian through an Aeropress which was fantastic, and my long black was brilliant too. The staff are friendly, the cafe is bursting with atmosphere, prices are reasonable and most importantly the coffee is great!
Seriously good coffee; my long black was spot on, smooth, balanced and tasty! They were running a cup of excellence over the weekend as a 'guest coffee' - wish i could have been around for it! The staff are great and it has a funky atmosphere too; and while i didn't have one, the sandwhiches were pre-made and looked a little iffy. But hey, you go for the coffee, so definitely worth checking out!
Hugh reviewed Store Street Espresso
I was seriously impressed by store street; the fit out is great, the staff friendly, and it's in walking distance of the tube, the uni and the British Museum! Score! I had a cup of excellence guatemalan, it was brilliant! Highly recommended.
Hugh reviewed Stumptown Coffee Roasters (W. 29th)
Very cool little cafe, you can drink your coffee in the adjoining lobby which is bursting with atmosphere. My double ristretto was a little unbalanced, but the 3/4 cap I chased it with was nothing short of divine. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town!!
Hugh reviewed Culture Espresso Bar
I loved this place! As another Aussie looking for good coffee, this was an oasis in the desert of Starbucks, mcdonalds and other insipid brewed coffees. My long black (short americano) and piccolo latte (cortado) where both perfect, an I had a great chat with the barista/owner. Interestingly, as seems to be the trend in NY, they where using a range of coffee from different roasters, I wish I could have been round for tuesdays intelligentsia! As mentioned below the decor is simple but stylish and the baristas are passionate and skillfull, the perfect combo!
Hugh reviewed Third Rail Coffee
I'm a bit of a newbie to NY, but I'm pretty sure this is on west third in soho - If so, best coffee I've had so far in north America!! The espresso was balanced and sweet with a beautiful citrus acidity to finish, and the 'macchiato' (an Aussie piccolo latte) was smooth and creamy too - finally somewhere that gets microfoam! To boat the atmosphere and neighborhood are cool, the staff friendly and the service great!
Hugh reviewed Harry's Espresso Bar
Easily the best coffee I have come across in bondi, I had a mind blowing costa rican half longblack, and my double ris flat white was pretty damn awesome too. I found the staff to be friendly and laid back, adding to the positive beachy vibe of the cafe. Highly recommended!
Hugh reviewed The Corner Store Cafe
Seriously impressed by the corner store!! The wait time was a little long, but the staff where friendly very accommodating of my elderly grandmother. The double ris was brilliant, and a had a 3/4 flatwhite that was also award winning. The menu sounded great, and the cakes that we got where absolutely amazing. The corner store also has a really cool vibe, highly recommended!
Hugh reviewed Green Beanery
Reputation led me here but unfortunately I feel let down. The espresso was flat and bitter, nothing at all to recommend it. However, i found the staff to be friendly and knowledgable, and there is an excellent array of coffee equipment for sale, including syphons, grinders, pour overs and espresso machines. I wouldn't recommend it for the coffee, but if you're after something to expand your coffee collection, the green beanery is a great place to get your next equipment fix.
Hugh reviewed Dark Horse Espresso Bar
I can't speak highly enough of dark horse, I've been there twice and both times the coffee has been remarkable, smooth, sweat but still with a nice body. Easily the best coffee I've had in Canada over the 5 weeks I've been here, and on par with some of australia's best. The staff where great, the atmosphere is lively and there's free wifi too, definitely worth a visit!!
Hugh reviewed Belgrave Cartel
While I can't fault the atmosphere or the vibe of the cartel, the two times I have been there the coffee has been gross - bitter, astringent and generally lacking any positive characteristics espresso should have. The milk was too hot as well. You can do a lot better than this in manly!!
Hugh reviewed The Source
I was very pleasantly surprised by both the service and the coffee at source, the manager was even kind enough to help me out in my quest to buy a triple basket, bringing one down from upstairs. My double ristretto was perhaps a little log, but flavorsome and well balanced. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe, it\'s has a good vibe to go with the great coffee and service.
Hugh reviewed Barefoot Coffee Traders
Barefoot is a lovely little cafe nestled in the heart of manly. Using toby's estate beans, the coffee is consistently amazing. Due to it's small size and 'hole in the wall' nature, it's packed full of atmosphere but is often noisy, thus probably not somewhere to go for a business meeting, but if you are after an phenomenal coffee it's definitely the cafe for you!
