Dagezi reviewed Behind The Beans
Just a little hole in the wall next to the Glen St. theatre, it doesn't promise much at first glance, but this place is actually really good -- apparently it's an outgrowth of Background and the drinks are really on point. Best coffee I've yet found in Belrose/Frenchs Forest area and one of the top 5 I've had in Sydney. Wouldn't have expected this in such an out of the way spot. Friendly crew and good orange chocolate muffins to boot.
Dagezi reviewed High Street Bakery
One wonders if these folks are ripping off Pottery Green (or as I'd guess for various reasons) the other way around. Cheaper baguettes and cash only here. The coffee is probably better than at PGB, the croissants worse (though not bad). We didn't think the wait for food unreasonable.
Dagezi reviewed Dose (Sydney)
Nice space, coffee was fine. A little nutty/vegetal for my tastes. You'd think they'd have been a bit nicer about not doing marshmallows with babycini--instead of any sort of smiling "Sorry, we don't do that!" a kind of flat, almost hostile "No." in replay to my query. Haven't been back.
Dagezi reviewed Novo Coffee
Thought I'd be missing Aussie coffee while in Denver for a conference, but this place was actually really quite good. The coffee was a little trebly for my tastes (bright without too much body) but well-made drinks (cortados, mostly) by attentive staff.
Dagezi reviewed Barber Shop Espresso
This was much better coffee than we expected to find this far from Sydney. Just a small shopfront without much space to sit, but the owner is good natured and chatty and knows what he's doing. We went twice and the coffee varied a bit between the two days, but at its best was really quite good.
Dagezi reviewed SteamTank Coffee
This place, I don't get--I've been here 4 or 5 times and I've never had a great or even a good drink. As near as I can figure, all of the good press here must be based on milk-less drinks. If you're into lattes, etc., I'll bet you'll be disappointed. Super friendly folks, but my results haven't matched the elevated ranking. Sigh.
Dagezi reviewed Chicken And Fishhead Cafe
A good place to take kids -- two marshmallows on every babycino (plus it's across the street from a nice park by the train line; 4 year old bliss). For older folks, the coffee isn't bad and food is fairly reasonably priced (and there's no EFTPOS minimum). The whole package is a winner.
Dagezi reviewed Pottery Green Bakers
The coffee here ranges from okay to quite good (usually more towards the bottom of that range), but you should come here for the pastries which are world-beating. The chocolate croissant here (but, weirdly, not at the Eastern Rd location in Turramurra) is one of the best two or three I've had in Sydney (up there with more famous places like La Banette or Flour and Stone). Some great breakfast options as well.
Dagezi reviewed The Steam Engine
Don't get here often, but every time I've been, my drink has been fantastic. Great, flavor-forward espresso and superb milk texture. Haven't been as impressed by the pastries, but the folks there are jolly and this place fully deserves its high ranking.
Dagezi reviewed Curl The Whisker Cafe
Charming place and nice location by the Thornleigh train station, but the coffee here is too inconsistent. Teeters on the edge of overextracted and bitter--sometimes on the good side, more often for me, not. They also charge $0.30 too much for their drinks.
Dagezi reviewed Replay Espresso
A consistently great latte (possibly improving over the last few months, even). A cramped, busy space (order and then go outside and wait by the window for your order) and pastries that are too expensive to mess with. Also, they do charge $0.30 more that Sydney Standard Price, but they are worth it, mostly.
Dagezi reviewed Stanley St Cafe
Coffee is consistently excellent. The owner is on the bar ~95% of the time and knows what he's doing. The food is a bit pricey for me, but the blueberry muffins (with cornmeal and coconut) are worth seeking out. Not everyone will smile when they serve you, but if you are from the East Coast in America, that kind of adds to the charm. Solid.
Dagezi reviewed Coffee Brothers
The quality of the drinks varies a bit depending on who is behind the bar, but in general ranges from quite good to outstanding. The food is good and cheap ($8 for breakfast/sandwiches). The pear and berry oatmeal thing was outstanding, as well. One of our favorites.
