I’ve heard a lot about the Single Guys but have never been in the area to check them out. Today all I had time for was a take away Flat White. The lady taking my order was friendly and succinct. While I waited for my order I observed that the place was practically full of customers and there was a nice chill vibe happening. My coffee was the perfect temperature and texture. I’m not sure what beans they used but they produced a beautiful tasting drink. It’s definitely worth a second visit for sit down drink and eat!!!

The Brew Testament is fresh new face for specialty coffee in North Lakes. The cafe is themed with dark timbers, metal highlights and a luscious stone bench. It is class all the way. The chef prepared menu looks good as well. The coffee is hot and awesome, using Semi-Pro beans. This place is definitely a coffee destination on he north side of Brisbane!!!

Woodman's Axe was an amazing find in a regional area. The Axil beans from Melbourne gave my cappuccino an enjoyable depth. A depth I haven't experienced for a while, even in Brisbane. The flavour was so rich. The only disappointing thing was that an 8oz coffee doesn't last very long. Will definitely visit the Woodman's again if I am in Mackay.

Shutter & Brew are a hidden gem in Wavel Heights. The staff are friendly and helpful. Their beans are from Cleanskin and they run Old School as the main blend and offer single origins (s/o) as well. The s/o they were using on 31-01-16 was particularly delicious (Columbian). As their name suggests. One of the team is a photographer. There are camera straps for sale and vintage cameras on display around the cafe as well amazing photos. See their website for info on workshops and all things "shutter" related.

Old Johns is the business. My coffee was a welcome treat after travelling down to Coffs from Queensland with not many good coffee options on the road. My cappuccino was hot and smooth. While I waited I could appreciate the large array of hipster style decorations and furnishings (my favourite was the old Seltzer bottle at the wash basin out the back). With friendly efficient staff I would definitely be back if in the area again.

I was at the Allan Border Oval for a cricket match recently. Faced with coffee from a major Australian roaster I beanhunted my way to Stalled Espresso. Only 2 minutes walk away it was definitely worth the trip. My cappuccino was prepared by friendly staff. It was delicious till the last drop. I went back later in the day for another and it too was a great drink.

I was at Wheelhouse for a private function recently. The friendly staff calmly made drinks for all in attendance for most of the party. The vibe was very relaxing. The catered sweets were delicious. Coffee was exceptional. A great afternoon was had by all.

Matthew Thomas is located in the Aspley Hypermarket. The service is very attentive and freidnly. Now serving coffee from Toby's Estate I can report that the coffee took me by surprise. It was of a high standard. This was my first taste of Toby's Estate as well and I am glad that the shop has moved on from Segafredo.

U and I is a real find in the Ashgrove area. This was my first visit. With retro inspired furniture and collectables it is has a nice vibe to it. The coffee I chose ( a small cappuccino) was pretty good. I've had better else where but I think the place warrants another visit. The guy serving was warm and friendly.

This was my first visit to Pod. The service was great. The goodies were tasty. Their coffee is Saint from Cleanskin. The cappuccino I ordered was good. But having experienced numerous drinks from the Cleanskin Roastery it still had a lot to live up to.

I have seen their sign for Deja Bru on the road advertising that they serve Elixir coffee for many months now, so I popped in for a quick takeaway coffee. It is a great looking café. The décor and art is tastefully done. The food on offer looks good. There were plenty of sweet treats to tempt one. (My pick would be the fruit & Nut mixes made by Brook Farm which have Belgian chocolate drops in them!!) The woman who served me was genuinely friendly and helpful. This unfortunately is where the experience sours. The coffee was bad. I don’t know whether it was the milk or the extraction but my cappuccino was far from great. Maybe some more training is needed for the staff or the machine is not being cared for? I won’t be making a return visit.

Grabbing a coffee from Bold is always a pleasant experience. There is no fuss or bother as the staff are happy to serve you. This week the single origin on offer was from Panama. It is fruity and full of flavour. It's that good that I have been in twice in two days. I experienced it as a cappuccino but the owner has recommended it as an espresso as well.

I had dropped into Cleanskin to grab some beans the other week when opening the door I found a full house. The team behind the machine were busy filling 2 large takeaway orders which looked like 20 drinks or so. With their boss writing on cups and prepping chocolate and unusal orders the job was soon done. I didn't mind the wait I had for my drink as it gave me a chance to observe the staff in this situation. They were all cool under pressure. I didn't observe any other customers being impatient. It's a real testament to the place. Cleanskin has great staff and obviously coffee worth waiting for. Well done!! BTW my single origin cappucino was as always: smooth and very tasty!!

North Lakes has been a desert where coffee is concerned. But fear no longer an oasis has arrived: Fort Specialty Coffee. Established by former Cleanskin baristas it is a most welcome sight. With an eclectic collection of furniture and decor a very relaxing vibe has been created. I have visited on several occasions and have never once been let down by the coffee. The best way to describe it is: consistent. The temperature is great, the milk is smooth. The flavours of the house blend (from Cleanskin) do wonders in my mouth. Fort is well worth your time to stop in if you are in the area. (Don't forget to check out the ceiling!!).

This was my first visit to Cup. It was a bit tricky to find with parked cars and traffic but it was rewarding when I found the entrance. Up a set of concrete stairs I found a modern industrial warehouse. The high ceilings allowed the open space to be filled with lots of natural light. The service area and the roastery share the same floor so no hidden secrets here. The woman who served me was friendly and helpful. I ordered a single origin cappuccino. (With so much space a second machine is used for the second grinder.) The coffee was smooth and flavoursome. I was pleasantly surprised in the first few sips tasting strong chocolate. On closer inspection real chocolate flakes were used on top. If passing through Wooloongabba I would visit again. The vibe is very relaxed and when I was there during the day not too busy. Look out for a green timber sandwich board with 'coffee' on it!!!

I have been visiting Cleanskin every 10 days or so for close to a year now to buy beans and a take away coffee. I can say that I have never been once disappointed with my coffee. If you haven't tried their single origin coffee you are missing out. The best way to describe the taste is that it is transcendent. The first sips are the best; the flavour is an intense burst across your tongue. It's like you are almost transported to the highlands or volcanic growing regions of the beans. You will definitely notice this 'transcednce' missing from other coffees you try after experiencing a Cleanskin single origin. The retail area is a tidy affair, modern clean and basic. Some have said too scientific, but I think it just reenforces that it's all about the coffee. There is a long window for customers to view the roasting process while they wait. The staff are always are friendly and helpful. As well as beans, there is a small range of coffee related equipment and gadgets to purchase. Come for a visit. You won't be disappointed.

Bold Coffee is a real find on the north side of Brisbane, at Bald Hills. The coffee is always perfectly balanced and is presented at the right temperature. They use locally roasted beans from Saint and have also begun offering single origins from Cleanskin as well. The cafe is a friendly charming place with recycled influences in the decor and furniture. A recent expansion is going to allow them to serve meals soon. Which will be a welcome addition for those who have time to linger.

I dropped into Global Fine Foods to escape the traffic congestion on the way to an appointment I was running early for. I ordered a cappuccino and a piece of chocolate coconut slice. The slice was perfect. It was beautifully moist and the blend of the cocoa and coconut was pleasant. The coffee was nice and hot yet lacked any subtle flavours. I felt like it was missing something. I then realized that they were using Merlo beans. I have never had a Merlo coffee that I have enjoyed. The service was first rate. I was greeted immediately and asked how I could be helped, which is always refreshing. Its a shame the coffee didn't match the service. With so many other coffee establishments close by (offering local blends Elixir and Campos) and with such other unique food offerings in store, Global Fine Foods may benefit from switching their coffee to a successful smaller brand such as Saint to set themselves apart.

This was my first visit to Neli. Not only do they roast their own coffee but have a wide range of products and machines to envy. They were friendly and helpful with the questions I asked. I ordered a cappuccino made with the single origin that was on offer. The drink was perfectly balanced. Will definitely be making a return visit next time I am out in the Redcliffe area.
