KhunChris reviewed Chan-neung Cafe&beds
Chan-neung Cafe&beds lies in the middle of Soi 1, Nimmanhaemin Rd., just follow the jazzey and bossa-nova like tunes emerging from the shop. The place is not pimped up in an artificially hip style like a lot of coffee shops these days, but rather presents itself in a way of loose understatement. Thus, you can pick up your coffee yourself or have it served, people here are quite down-to-earth, the atmosphere is a bit like an open living room where you don´t feel as a guest, but more than a part of the family. And everything evolves around coffee in this three-story building: Whether you want it slowly dripped, powerfully pressed or traditionally filtered - there´s practically no limit. Usually, the brewing part is professionally accomplished by an Italian Bosco Napoli 2-group lever machine and the espresso will finally be proffered to you in a pre-heated, thick-walled cup for a delicious sip. Khun Tay, the man on the machine, will get you familiar with the shops Thai house blend. But the really good stuff comes in every couple of months with his friends returning from the States, Europe or Singapore. Sometimes, he undertakes some exploratory voyages himself to come back with special roasts from Has Bean, Timeless, Handsome, Oriole - all differing in taste, texture and flavor like expensive wines. Your palate can also explore some excellent Thai coffee blends as for example those of Nine-One Coffee. Check on the shop´s facebook page to know when they´re on offer. Finally, people at Chan-neung do not seem to preoccupy themselves with fancy latte art themes. Instead, they focus more on the quality of the coffee that´s underneath the creamy foam.
