After reading a few good reviews decided to give it a go. Was good and we returned again next day. Received great service (glads of water without asking etc.) and a great Flat White with impressive free pour latte art. Unfortunately, the next day it was obviously not the main barista and she just sort of slopped the milk in the cup any old how. The art is good too - quite an indie, trendy kind of place. We bought a print done on site (Printa) by a Hungarian artist which was quite a good souvenir. Very chilled and easy to find near the Astoria. Particularly good if you stay at the Astoria Hostel

Have returned quite a few times now - I like the Beak St cafe but prefer the new(ish) one at Somerset House. I find that the flavour of the coffee really comes through strongly, more so than most other places, which is great as I really like their espresso blend. The barista mentioned that they grind 20g of coffee for each shot which is more than the usual which means it extracts slower, thicker and richer. Really good baristas at Somerset House, always interesting latte art and the coffee is hot but they don't warm the cups first to keep the heat in... I don't really like that so it suits me well. I think there are 3 branches in Soho now plus the Somerset House and soon to be one more in South Kensington. I love their Synesso machines - beautiful! Had an iced latte which I don't usually go for but it was really good with a bit of sugar syrup which they had on hand and offered.

Really enjoyed Dept of Coffee from the first visit... great knowledge and willingness to talk about the coffee origins and flavours. To be honest the thing I enjoy most is the NZ accent. Flat whites are just right and the approach towards customers really is that of a group that cares about more than just coffee, also Social Affairs! (Sorry, pure cheese there) Will happily stray from my normal work-home route for coffee and a chat here. Also really good choice of music

Always friendly, interesting but not intrusive staff. Espresso based coffees are consistently perfect. Glossy, creamy milk with latte art to be envied every time. I love going here just to watch them at work. Haven't seen many people go for sandwiches or pastries, think they're a bit expensive and too big. Also think they should add FW to the menu because they'll happily do it and they do it well. Also one of few places that offer you water to chase down the coffee without you having to ask. Also less confusing and more obviously a coffee shop with the rebranding to Workshop Coffee Co. Good move

Good but not incredible coffee - ordered a piccolo and got a macchiato... thought that was a bit strange. My partners latte looked good. Nice little space in Soho - gave me a feeling that I could run my own coffee shop. Half full when we went in, mostly with people relaxing reading the paper after work - good vibes despite no music. The service was friendly although perhaps a bit disorganised... I mean we looked at them, they looked at each other and then we looked and each other and after all this I ended up just walking right up to one of them to help them decide who was going to look after us. Still, smiley when we came in and left and got hellos and goodbyes so that's the main thing.

Best coffee in London - espresso coffees look consistently beautiful and it's not surprising given the artisan approach. St ALi coffees served which give a delicious smooth crema and a lingering acidic aftertaste that spells quality. Aeropress coffees are also great to try with a regularly changing menu, not to mention great advice from the knowledgeable staff. Small place with character and very friendly staff - quite a few Australians.
