Super average. Shoot tasted bitter and over-extracted. Wasn't terrible. Fast service. Told me blends are better than single-o's, this threw me off. Blends have their place, but I love single-origin's, they blow my mind and change the way people view coffee.
I LOVE Monorail Cafe. One of the reasons I miss living in Seattle is this cafe. Next time you are in Seattle, check out Monorail on a weekend morning when the older chap is working. There's only a few tables on the side walk. By any chance there isn't a seat, take a stroll to Pike's Place Market(5mins away). If you're lucky enough to have a seat, it's a great place to people watch and enjoy downtown Seattle.
If you want a more 'roots' experience of Seattle coffee than Starbucks, then try this place. It began in 1980 (only 9 years later than the ubiquitous chain) as a coffee cart selling espresso outside the monorail station, hence the name. In the interests of progress (!) and perhaps warmer digs for its baristas it now occupies a tiny store a block or so away. The coffee was great, and even though this is essentially just a hole-in-the-wall takeaway place, I was offered a real cup for my espresso, which was rich and full. So if you need a quick caffeine hit, and the weather's not too bad, come and enjoy the quirky humour and history of this place.
