BeanBrewding reviewed Puk espresso
For the full review and fabulous photos visit http://bit.ly/1dFHC92 Puk Espresso is a quaint coffee shop in Kangaroo Point and the scene of our first ever re-review. So what’s new at Puk? The coffee? Well sort of … Don’t fret, the amazing blend still exists, it’s just undergone a cosmetic facelift. The brand of the signature blend has shifted from terrestrial to celestial – Green Cauldron has morphed to Moonshine. The Art Gallery, showcasing local artists, is technically a new addition since our first visit – although it played host to our inaugural coffee tour. Whilst waiting for our coffee order, a couple of double ristretto short blacks appeared as an aperitif – whoa they were tasty and showcased the blend of Aussie, Sumatran, Costa Rican and PNG beans. They were beautifully extracted through the naked group heads of the La Marzocca Linea and a wonderful way to start the day. As well as the shorty, we had the blend as a pour over, latte and long macchiatos. One thing is for sure, the ‘new’ Moonshine blend is versatile and works well as milk-based, black and filtered coffees. You can also have the blend as AeroPress and cold drip. Whichever method you like your coffee, you won’t be disappointed. The earthiness of the Australian grown bean in the blend was definitely apparent in the long Macchiatos. The pour over was mellow and showcased more of the fruitiness of the blend. Amazingly we had our first meal together at Shucked and a week or so later we were eating again! Puk has a modest and tasty breakfast menu to accompany the coffee delights. ‘More coffee?’ led to further conversation with Antonia and Brad about coffee and future plans. Although there is no single origin at present, there are plans to have a showcase month where coffees from around the world are available to taste. For example, in January to celebrate Australia Day, a Byron Bay grown single origin would be available. So what hasn’t changed since our first visit? The quality of the cup, the friendly service and the sense of oasis you feel under the canopy of the enveloping fig tree. The start of Puk’s URL is ilovepuk and in reality it’s hard to dispute. Sitting in the sunshine drinking Moonshine makes Puk Espresso a delightful coffee shop in Kangaroo Point.
