After hearing great things about the bean at Mixed Business I was unfortunately very disappointed this morning. It's possible the bean is great and the barista totally butchered it. Our strong lattes tasted like the extraction process had been left running for too long, leaving us with a burnt flavour.
The staff were friendly without overdoing it for 8am and the space inside was very pleasant. We didn't try the food.
A fantastic little spot that I like to structure my bus trip around if I have to head east from the city. Conveniently located just off Hoddle St and right near the Victoria Park Train Station.
This is such an easy cafe to drive past that you get the sense it's mostly locals who frequent it. The staff are friendly, the food is tasty, the prices are cheapish, the coffee is great and the vibe is mellow.
A distinctive is the two different blends of coffee they offer. They serve the bold Italian Genovese or a smoother organic blend called Gravity. I always have the organic blend and it's alw...
Highly unrecommended.
On recommendation from a friend I stopped in at Cafe Bagatelles on Rathdowne Street to drink coffee, eat breakfast and do some writing. Upon walking in I was ignored by the staff and although the cafe was not even half full, finding a seat was difficult as the tables and chairs were so tightly jammed together. There was terrible elevator music playing and there wasn't enough air flowing resulting in a very stuffy vibe.
I managed to order coffee from a too-cool-for-school waiter with ridiculous facial hair and before long was brought a terrible excuse for a cafe latt...
Dom and Mark (sp?) run this place to near perfection. Friendly, down to earth staff who pump out huge amounts of coffee at fantastic quality. Reasonably priced at $3.20 and consistently good. I must have had hundreds of coffees from this place and I can't recall having a bad one.
They also do a few simple but delish lunch options - foccacias, sandwiches, etc. I hesitate to mention it because they always disappear very quickly but the Chicken Cutlet Focaccia is just right. They have a range of little cakes, biscuits, etc. My personal favourite is the fruit bagels on friday. Fridays are an ex...
Most definitely my favourite cafe, a great little spot. Fantastic food (we almost always have 'The Mumbler'), staff that have always made us feel very welcome and in my humble opinion the best coffee in Melbourne.
It's often busy on a weekend so I'd suggest a weekday visit if you are looking for a chilled vibe. Either way though you'll most likely find yourself sitting for hours and ordering multiple coffees.
I used to frequent Marios pretty regularly also. Back in the days when it was just around the corner. It was by far my favourite coffee in Glenferrie Rd. I went back recently and found it very strong, almost too strong. I like my coffee strong but this was too much, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as before. Still, it was nice to be back.
