Coffee worth travelling for indeed! I work in the docklands of Melbourne and still 5 blocks isn't too far to sample the delight that is the coffee from Brother Baba Budan.

I'm still reveling in the pleasant Columbian aftertaste that was their bean of the day, made with absolute creamy rich perfection.

If you're a Melbournian who enjoys a good coffee, and by good i mean a cup of excellence, and you haven't been to Brother Baba Budan yet, then why the hell haven't you?

For a long time i thought the best coffee in North Melbourne belonged to Di Bella Roasting House and Auction Rooms, that is until i caught wind of the existence of a little place called Fandango on Errol St.

Atmosphere? Nothing fits the term "retro chic" more. The warm hues of red, orange and brown is right out of the 70s akin to a childhood visit to grandma's place. While there isn't a hell of a lot of room, the atmosphere and people more than make up for it. Everyone seems on a good vibe here and if you're donning a pair of skinny black jeans and sunnies then chances are you know a few of...

Three of us decided to check out Tom Phat two weeks ago based on some glowing reviews of their food and coffee. We were not disappointed.

Situated right in the heart of a very bustling Sydney Rd., Tom Phat is a little goldmine amongst the retro stylee and savers stores. When we arrived it was extremely busy and had to wait for a table on the couches at the front of the cafe. This took no longer than 5 mins and were soon seated and perusing the menu.

The food is fantastic here. Inventive gourmet breakfasts, and what looked and smelled to be delicious Thai lunch dishes on the adjacent tab...

Ahhh, Alley Tunes. My favourite second hand record store in all of Melbourne, turned favourite record store/cafe!

After ownership changed hands a few years ago, the new owner saw the potential of marrying together good tunes, great atmosphere and great coffee.

The last time I was here I spent around an hour perusing through crates of vinyl and then was kindly offered a coffee a la gratis having still not yet bought any records. I've since been back for the coffee alone, as it was of a very high standard. Great full flavour and very pleasant aftertaste with a great buzz!

The atmospher...

Based on the reviews here of this cafe, my colleagues and I visited the Dancing Goat on lunch today. While there was not enough room for us to eat here, we skipped to the Japanese place a couple of doors down and planned on returning to taste and see what all the fuss is about.

The first thing we noticed was the large "Victorian Barista Champion 2009" etched on the window in huge bold lettering. This, we thought, was a tad loud, but fair, as i'm sure it attracts a load of passing by customers. Unfortunately the coffees we ordered didn't quite stand up to the high standard that this sign w...

Fruits of Passion is a great place to come for breakfast and is very chic inner suburb spot to recover from that hangover or get your coffee fix. They have Vittoria coffee here... Very good barista, consistently decent coffees

A word of warning though, if you plan to come at a busy time on the weekends, then bring a book while you wait for a) your coffee (especially if take-away), b) your bill or c) a smile.

The food and coffee more than make up for the occasional snooty service though, and the eggs benedict can't be missed.

Amazingly good coffee. Has been my favourite for a while in the North Melbourne area. Always extremely friendly staff and great atmosphere because it's set in a warehouse but all modernised inside!

The food is great too, very gourmet breakfast - not good for hangover though as they use very crusty bread (hard to chew when feeling a little under the weather, but otherwise fantastic)

Ask what special blends they have on at the time. The even sell all their different beans.

You won't be disappointed.
