Went there for brunch today - had two of their El Bosque Guatemalan s.o. - amazing taste. The head barista said the beans were on the fresh side, but the flavours were consistent and clear. Beautiful cherry/berry notes in the nose and crisp apple tartness in the mouth. Combined with Cherry Ripe pancakes for breakfast, a remarkable meal :D
Tried their Single Origin from San Cristobal, Mexico as a double espresso. Wow! One of the best coffees I've had all year!
Acidic hit up front, then deep berry flavours, hint of mint and smooth finish. Amazing cup.
I've been to the Duchess a few times now, and every time I do I feel happy the moment I walk in the door. The decor & music recall a simpler time, and the staff are always friendly and engaging.
The coffee is consistently really really good - you won't get a full-on 3rd-wave experience, but I've yet to have a cup that was anything less than great.
Similarly, their food is amazing - everything I've tried has been delicious and bursting with flavour.
Do yourself a favour, cross the West Gate and give yourself a treat!
Just stopped by for takeaway on a Tuesday lunchtime. Place had a good vibe - although the "rugged chic" nature of the decor seemed almost to be executed *too* well. Maybe that's just me; anyway, it's still nice.
Staff were friendly, coffee was strong, flavoursome, and just right temperature-wise. The chocolate brownie was delicious, too.
Definitely worth trying again - if I lived on this side of town, it would be a very strong candidate for my local!
Visited here after going to the gym and needing caffeine - their prices are good at $3. The latte I ordered was good - not too hot, not bitter, not burnt. Flavour wasn't amazing, but it wasn't horrible.
Food looked good, staff were attentive, and it has a nice outlook over towards the city from The Well.
Not a coffee snob's cafe, but you won't get an undrinkable cup here.
When I commute via public transport, I often stop here for a quick coffee on my way through. Courtney & Verity are great fun, remember your order (I have no idea how given their throughput) and serve it up with a cheeky smile.
Their Axil coffees are always magic, and just the right temperature for immediate consumption too.
Highly recommend!
Ellery & Co is tucked away quietly in a secluded part of Church St in West Hawthorn. If you didn't know it was there, you'd miss it, which is a shame as their coffee is really quite good.
The place has a nice light atmosphere, with some vintage decor giving it a slightly homey feel. The staff are friendly, and the magic flat white I drank was very smoothly made - just the right temperature for drinking, no bitterness and certainly not in need of sugar. If you're in that part of Hawthorn/Richmond/Kew, worth a drop-in for a visit.
(Can't speak for their food, as I've not tried it)
Dropped in at 9:30 on a Saturday morning. There were a few people around, but not nearly as many as Buongiorno on the opposite corner.
Typical Adelaide cafe - roomy, nice decor while not pretending to be anything else. Staff were friendly and prompt, and my food and coffee arrived within 5 minutes of ordering.
My flat white wad served very hot — the milk was almost scalded. No burnt notes on the espresso though, thankfully. A nice coffee, nothing mind-blowing but not particularly memorable either…
