I'm a professional photographer, continually on the road exploring and an absolute coffee snob. I like to think I really know my coffee, so I won't recommend a place unless it's really really good.

I don't know what's happened recently, but in the last month or so, their coffee has gone from good/very good to outstanding. All the same baristas, same beans. Definitely my favourite cafe in newtown.

One of my favourite places for brekkie meetings, Kawa has fantastic coffee and damn good food. But that's almost a side point here - Kawa has atmosphere in spades, it's a great place to sit and talk or just watch the crowds idle by...

I disagree! It has a great, chilled vibe and great customer service. I've just had 3 macchiatos in a row, which I never do!

I agree with the other review - the food is indeed epic and the atmosphere funky. Coffee wise, they can be a little inconsistent, and while having a cup on site is usually great, their take away cups are too large. As a result take away is often a bit diluted, too hot from excess milk and often a bit weak.

Ahhhhh, Single Origin. I've never had anything less than a brilliant coffee there, including the best macchiato I've ever had anywhere... It's a pain in bum for parking (nitpicking), and I can't say it's the most comfortable place to sit down at, but otherwise there's few places in Sydney to match it!

The original location for Coffee Roaster, Juice and Java serves some of the best coffee in Surry Hills. And not just sometimes. The baristas Keit and Petr consistently make incredible coffee and have a vast range of blends to call upon. The atmosphere is welcoming and Keit will always reply with a fast quip to any question one asks. Not to mention he never forgets your coffee!
