I have no idea what all the fuss is about here. To me, this seems like an excellent example of style over substance, or rather talking a lot about coffee using lots of buzzwords and generating a totally undeserved reputation. I ordered a double ristretto in the single origin of the day which was an Indian, the extraction was about 10mL or something similarly ridiculous. Points for knowing that they were working with a shit bean and needed to mask its shitness by underextracting it, no points for putting the shit bean out in the first place. The house blend in a Strong 3/4 Latte was ok but noth...

Nolan (owner of Proud Mary) is obviously a coffee geek, not only does he have a $40k custom Synesso, but he has syphons & grinders aplenty, a 1kg roaster even though his coffee is sourced from 5 Senses (just in case some nice green beans come in, presumably) and what's most interesting, one Clover for coffee and another Clover soon to be in for tea. This is pretty crazy since Clovers have been taken off the market (after ...
Fantastic new cafe from some ex-St. Ali guys. Only been open for about a month but the food is terrific and the coffee has been flawless so far. My new regular place in South Melbourne, preferred over St. Ali and probably in my Top 5 cafes in Melbourne. The brunch options are also awesome and overall very pleasant indeed. As per the reviews below, try their Dead Man blend, it contains 20% Ariche at time of writing (which could explain the hefty $4 price-tag)

The decor is really something interesting and hard to describe, something like your mum's old tea-room (what's a tea-room? no idea, it just sprang to mind) or perhaps an extrapolated doll's house of sorts. It's just very very home-sweet-home-ish. The coffee is also very very good. Haven't tried the food as yet but will endeavour to at some point.

The place itself is pretty cool though, very brunswick hipster, but in a not-too-pretentious way. Also the breakfast menu is amazing.
I second timfazio on this one. This is the place to 'see and be seen' in Camberwell, especially if you're a high school student at one of the private schools in the area. I used to come here often in my high school days and nothing has changed. The coffee is still terrible, the food is passable though.

Brighton being generally area devoid of anything of interest for me (apart from pod and the arthouse cinema) it's great to have this place around. Otherwise it would be a wasteland of your usual latte sipping soccer mums who care little for the quality of their coffee because it's masked with a litre of sugar and 5 teaspoons of coffee. But I digress. Pod use Supreme, and they do very well with it indeed. The place itself is nothing special and neither is the service ...

The first time, the coffee was super, the second time the 3/4 Latte I ordered looked like a messed up Long Machiatto, it was over-extracted and there was far too much bitterness in whatever Veneziano blend they were using. Disappointing stuff for a cafe with an excellent reputation normally. But the first coffee *was* super...
