Donkey Wheel House is a little-known but blossoming social enterprise project based in the beautiful former Tramways building near the corner of Spencer street. Kinfolk is the first and most visible tenant under the innovative and visionary ownership of the Donkey Wheel Charitable Trust, which purchased the building in 2008, with a vision to use it to effect social change. Always a sucker for a bookshop, I gravitated toward this one not only for its hefty paperbacks, but for the smell of coffee beans wafting out onto the street. I had a soy latte - a large comes in an enormous but comforting ceramic cup - and it was smooth, hot and the coffee roasted to perfection. The banana and walnut muffin that accompanied it was pure heaven. Sitting on a wicker seat out under the covered terrace watching the world go by, I was very satisfied indeed!!

Weak, watery, bitter, nasty cheapo soy milk. My sister and I both threw out our takeaways when they were more than half full. Steer clear.

I lamented this fact to the smiling waitress who took my order for a soy latte last Thursday morning, who agreed unreservedly and told me that Bonsoy is due back (minus dangerous levels of iodine) in February!
