It's Toby's Estate. The bakery staff are not expert or confident baristas, but they do follow the instruction manual dutifully: texture milk, then pour the shot. The result is correct temperature, ok milk texture, plenty of crema. I suspect they clean the machine regularly too.

However, despite all of that, the dominating taste was burnt / scalded milk. The milk wasn't re-heated, but I did notice that the empty jug was pretty grubby and maybe all that existing milk coating was the culprit that spoilt an otherwise really good coffee. I'll try and get a second opinion before leaving town, although the Toby's Estate at the other end of town is an attraction.
Milk texture good, temperature good, barista seemed to know his stuff, and caught a good amount of crema in the milk. Coffee roast ok, but not sensational; can't remember the roaster (Gold something or other) Definitely a safer bet than the Lavazza-type shops surrounding it, and worth a visit.

However, this was a highway stop, milk temperature spot on, some crema ... in that context very drinkable. Food fresh and yummy, service friendly and fast.

Therefore my interest was piqued when Mavi opened for business in the new Sirius building. Having worked in Barton, I was already familiar with the "other Mavi", a Turkish cafe/restaurant in the Hotel Realm building: their food is awesome, but their coffee not quite (despite Veneziano beans).
Well, to cut a long story short, the new Mavi has excellent coffee, thanks to a combination of those same Veneziano beans (love that bountiful and smooth crema) and a full-time barista skilled enough to...
The Woden area is a little bereft of quality coffee outlets, and so when I saw the positive review of this establishment I felt duty-bound to give it a whirl. Upon entering I saw the combination of La Marzocco machine and Veneziano beans and felt cautiously optimistic.
My latte was duly delivered, and there was crema, by the bucket load, smooth and delicious. The milk was just the right temperature, and had been added before the crema disappeared; I often watch in horror as the espresso shot sits abandoned "going flat" while the milk is textured, but not today. So the coffee was good, but n...
Coffee taste was pretty good, but milk texture was poor (a few frothy bubbles on top of flat milk).
Oddly takeaway cups are polystyrene foam: detracts from the product and I assume not good environmentally.
Service very good, atmosphere so so.
In summary an OK coffee, but don't go out of your way.
When I see a shiny red La Marzocco in a cafe I suspect one of two things: either this place is serious about their coffee, or this place is serious about their image. Based upon a single visit to this cafe, I'm afraid I'm tending towards the latter.
My latte had an unappealing grey colour in the glass, perhaps a characteristic of the roast. Alternatively, it might be a consequence of letting the crema disappear before adding milk: the presentation was a little like a flat white with froth on top. On the positive side, milk temperature and extraction seemed good.
Oh, and the apple and blu...
