I'm a big fan of Cafe Grumpy when ever I'm in this part of town. Consistently good coffee, two Clovers, and a no laptop rule makes for a great atmosphere for meeting and talking with people.

It can get crowded at times, but that's not a bad thing. It's off a quiet street so it can just be a bit unassuming when you arrive to find no seating available.

One of my favorites in NY, with an even large location in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (without the no laptop rule!)

Urban Standard brews Primavera coffee, a Birmingham based roaster, in press pots and have a delicious lunch and breakfast menu that's very vegetarian friendly. There are artifacts from local artists and craftsman accenting the space and most of them are for sale to interested buyers.

They always have a case fu...

I moved to Brooklyn the day Boneshakers opened. I happened to be living on a friends floor just a block away, while I looked for a place of my own. When I first walked in, I was immediately comforted by all the dark reclaimed wood that was used for the counters and large communal tables. I immediately felt welcome.

I ordered a cup of black coffee and it was served in an eclectic mug that someone bought in another life on a trip to Colorado. In fact, the entire mug shelf was an attractively curated collection from thrift stores and home collections that added a lot of great character to the...
