I have been lucky enough to visit Axil Coffee Roasters several times since they started trading.
It was clear from the minute they opened their doors that they were one of Melbourne’s top venues for quality coffee.
The owners David Makin and Zoe Delaney are very experienced baristas and roasters and have spent many years in the coffee industry.
David and Zoe both know what it takes to prepare and present the perfect coffee and the results are evident in the cup.

I noted that these guys were using Veneziano beans and was expecting a good Cafe Latte but the extraction was thin with no body to it. The coffee was very weak. They really did not manage to extract the best shot from the beans. The texturing of the milk was very poor. An acceptable hot drink but not an outstanding coffee.

At 3571m / 11,760ft this is the highest coffee I have had and as such deserved a mention.
The espresso was not the best I have had but certainly better than many coffees I have been served.
A great cafe in a busy part of town. Coffee is roasted on site with the roaster sitting in the cafe. Nine different blends of roasted beans are available for sale.
The cafe is very busy with people at the bar having coffees, beers and a variety of other drinks that are available. Just sitting watching the customers was good value. The cafe is staffed by enthusiastic baristas who have good product knowledge. The cafe is run by Adrian Iten who is very passionate about his coffee. A good coffee, well prepared.
The Schwarzenbach Kolonialwaren Kaffeerosterei is truly a Beanhunter "Coffee worth travelling for..."
Schwarzenbach have been roasting coffee since 1864, the fact that they are still in business roasting and serving coffee indicates that they have been serving and satisfying customers needs for many years.
I had to queue up for a table but it was worth the wait. The coffee was excellent with none of bitterness or burnt flavours so often found in coffees served in this region. It left me with a very pleasant lingering taste of a beautifuuly roasted and perfectly extracted coffee The texturin...
