I tried again. I promised friends of mine I would give Stumptown another shot. I wanted to try again to see why the last four times I have left with a super sour, under-extracted taste that was so sharp it made my teeth hurt.
So here goes, I line up and wait my turn. I admire the... Read more
Put simply, if you own the Beanhunter app and you are in NYC, a visit to Stumptown is mandatory. It's small and can get crowded when it's busy (especially in winter time when no one wants to wait in line outside). But the coffee is superb (I always make an effort to get a brew here when visiting... Read more
This cafe has some of the best coffee in New York! It\'s just awesome!
New York has some fantastic coffee, and the new Stumptown Cafe inside the Ace Hotel serves some of the Big Apples best. This place is set up with a selection of fresh beans that you can buy to take home or you can relax and sample some of their espresso or house blends whilst standing around a bar... Read more
Very good espresso here - pull up for a quick shot and stand at the bar.
I came here a year ago and it was the best coffee. Bought beans and everything. And then proclaimed stump town to all who would listen. A year later and I was super excited to come back and sample the delights on offer. I am now 5 coffees deep in 3 days and I must say I am extremely disappointed.... Read more
Very cool little cafe, you can drink your coffee in the adjoining lobby which is bursting with atmosphere. My double ristretto was a little unbalanced, but the 3/4 cap I chased it with was nothing short of divine. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town!!
Awesome coffee. My macchiato was beautiful, not too bitter and very smooth.. I also tried a latte which was brilliant. I\'d recommend this place to everyone in New York, the best coffee I\'ve had here! The barista was also very warm and friendly, we ha a good chat :)
Given the reputation of this place, there was no chance I'd come to NYC and not check it out...
Know body really likes cueing, but I guess it's a sign of greatness if people are doing it... I have to say, there was a little frustration as there seemed to be no urgency to clear the... Read more
Great atmosphere. Not sure it's worth the line, which snaked all the way into the hotel lobby of the Ace Hotel, mid morning, but the coffee was solid. Had a latte on site. The roast (Hairbender) is really, really good. Maybe because of the line, though the cup took its time, there wasn't much care... Read more
1 Latte
Long queues but the coffee was worth it - highly recommended.
2 Cappuccinos
I went there on a mid-afternoon walkabout in Portland and was pretty impressed by their drinks. The staff was politely confused when I tried to get a one-and-one (macchiato and espresso, apparently it is just a Verve thing) but made me one anyways. Coffee was good and the hotel lobby was a cool... Read more
I needed an early morning coffee fix (not called Starbucks) on a recent trip to New York, and ended up here after searching for cafes in my vicinity via Beanhunter. I am happy to report I was not disappointed. Excellent espresso and flat whites and a wonderful breakfast menu make for a very... Read more

Best coffee I\'ve tasted in New York. I tried the espresso and it was incredible. Very smooth, perfect amount of crema, great ethiopian blend extracted at just the right temperature. The bar setting is great but if you need a seat, there\'s a big room full of couches through the doors on the side.
Very good coffee but a little too cool for school service! Obviously very popular due to the line! Atmosphere is just ok but if you can get a seat in the adjoining hotel it's quite good.
I'm currently sitting at the first coffee shop in New York that hasn't made me splutter upon first sip. In fact, my cappuccino was simply delicious. I went out of my way to find this spot, and wasn't disappointed. This cute cafe is located in the foyer of the Ace Hotel, and while there are no... Read more
this cafe is just awesome! good vibe, good music, good coffee! and for sure great baristas!
4 Skinny Cappuccinos
This is a hard one - the premises themselves are extremely well done, there is an obvious appreciation for coffee and the availability of quality coffee is so suprisingly limited in New York that I feel that they should be encouraged for offering a much higher standard than is generally available. ... 1 Pour Over, 1 Espresso, 1 Cappuccino
This place is the business. They're serious about their coffee and do it well. Worth going out of your way for in the New York coffee desert.
After 3 weeks in the wilderness (ie. in the United States) - I am drinking my first GOOD cup of coffee. Well done Stumptown and thank you!!
Dropped in here for a coffee on the go - was really good coffee, well made with a strong bitterness over the top of frothy milk. I also thought the decor was pretty cool... I agree it was pretty pricey, this seems to be the case for any decent coffee in NYC though
Our 2 nd coffee since arriving in NYC from Melbourne Great coffee and service and this place cuts it with some of the best in Melbourne
Highly anticipated - beautiful Ethiopian brewed coffee delivered as did the espresso. Decor was perfect for the coffee afficianado and lover of creative design. Only drawback was not knowing seating in Ace Hotel was 'standing room only' after ordering coffee to drink there. Might be worth checking... Read more
I came with high expectations and they were not met.
I ordered an espresso, a small latte (they don't have a flat white) and a small run and ginger loaf cake.
The latte arrived first, but I wanted to try the espresso first to really get a feel for the coffee before going for the milky... Read more
