Hat's off to these guys for creating something fantastic and original.

We've ventured here a couple of times and the coffee is absolutely fantastic. The passion is evident, the smell is awesome and the effort is on show for all to see. We also thought the food was really good and reasonably priced.

The only negative (minor though) would be the location - as it lacks some character. But if thats' the only down side to a great coffee then i can live with it!

With a true passion for Coffee, Mark and Kate make the Coffee Barun one of the best cafes I have been to in SA or any other state for that matter.

Friendly staff, great advice for the beginner or the experienced to try at home and the smell....oh that smell!! Freshly roasted beans, straight out of the roaster or the coffee of your choice freshly ground mmmmmmmm!!!

The food there is also fantastic, always fresh, always tasty and always more than I can get through (and I'm no light weight!!!).

Heading in to town down Main North Road? Do yourself a real favor and stop in, even if you're not, I think it would be worth the drive from just about anywhere!

The Coffee Barun is a MUST on the drive to work to get your day moving in the right direction. The moment you get out of the car you smell the fresh brew (international supply of coffee beans roasted daily by the owner Mark Barun on site). Always a friendly banter of conversation whilst your choice of coffee is brewed. The Coffee Barun offers undercover seating (inside or alfresco) with a seasonal menu of food - I recommend the Barun Breakfast on weekends and as for the new addition of waffles with fresh strawberries, strawberry coulis, ice cream and melted Belgium chocolate is to literally die for. My family have this inked into our diary for Sunday morning breakfasts - the family owned business promotes a family friendly environment to share our busy lives.
As for the coffee blends on offer Mark roasts approximately 18 different beans from all over the world. I myself will only drink long blacks or ristrettos which much care is taken in brewing consistently. Mark ensures that all his barista's take pride in providing the best flavour, consistency and presentation of their coffees. As for his new 'syphon' coffee that is a treat on a Sunday - one I recommend trying. My wife enjoys 'hot chocolate' but her comment is that they are never hot - that was until she tried the Coffee Barum Hot Belgium chocolate 3 weeks ago - that is now her favorite drink (and one she has to fight our daughters for).
I would thoroughly recommend that any coffee enthusiast take the time to drop on by have a fresh brew and enjoy the after taste.

All right, I love my coffee. I mean love. And I have found THE place that loves coffee as much as me so I decided to share & give them my little bit of word-of-mouth.

We stopped because we heard and read so much about the coffee @ The Coffee Barun we had to give a go. I thought it was a drive far north but it was 5 min out of North Adelaide.

We parked easily in the shopping centre car park, opened the door and could smell the coffee roasting. My eyes widened with anticipation. Walking up to the door, we could now smell the coffee through the grinders and the machine. Already I can’t wait and I’m not even in the door!

Walking through the door, to my excitement was a Synesso, and standing guard was not one, but two Roburs (one an electronic). We grabbed menus and took a seat at the great indoor tables - under the glass the coffee bean roasting process has been showcased for all to see (hand made they told us later). We ordered our usual, my half latte and my partner’s long black but they up-sell him a Syphon coffee. There was a guy roasting who later introduced himself as Mark (the owner) who made the Syphon. As he’s preparing it my latte rocked up, looking perfect with a lovely rosetta on top. They have a board on the wall saying the coffee was a Rwandan Bourbon and the taste was really quite beautiful.

Then they brought the syphon coffee over and said to let it cool a little to let the fruits come out. It was an Indonesian Blu Batak and we were told to look for grapes and then apricots. I noticed he also gave some tastings of the syphon to a couple of other customers, explaining to them a little about the coffee too.

We loved the coffee so much we got chatting & ended up buying some… along with a syphon! Mark gave us a demo of how the syphon works and the offer of further assistance if we need it.

The Coffee Barun has a three burner syphon bar, coffee beans, and they roast in-store. I don’t know how they fit it all in such a small space, but there’s a large outside area undercover. The heaters weren’t on when we were there & it was a bit chilly but there were people out there so I guess it works for them.

Oh, we also ordered a breakfast which was great value (amazing bacon) and another round of coffees while we were there (normal long black this time, just as nice). It’s got to be the best hidden secret and honestly, the best coffee in Adelaide.

We now travel regularly from Highgate to pick up coffee, and chat to Mark when he has time. He’s always got suggestions as to what we might like or new coffees to try.

YOU NEED TO CHECK IT OUT.

Coffee roaster Mark Barun is the owner of The Coffee Barun(play on his surname) just slightly north of Adelaide(closely surrounded by 3 shopping centres). He started out as a home roaster selling coffee online, but opened up almost 2 years ago to give the Adelaide public the opportunity to taste some of the best coffee Adelaide has to offer.

Roasting onsite with a 5kg Probat, Mark has a lot of specialty coffee to offer the public including coffees from Mexico, Ethiopia, Brazil, Peru, Kenya, Nicaragua, Indonesia, etc. If you are after a certain coffee, chances are he has it. Mark is always happy to discuss different coffees and blend if desired.

The coffee is mainly served through Adelaide’s first Synesso. It is a Sabre, but apparently is going to become the first hybrid with one group converted to a Cyncra which will be for his espresso(not milk based) coffee. This is paired well with 2 Roburs(one is an E) to help produce amazing coffees. A Ditting grinder is also on hand for take home coffee or if someone wants a coffee not on today’s menu. The Coffee Barun has a syphon bar as well, making it one of the only places serving syphon. We sampled the Kenya AA, which was a nice subtle coffee with bright flashes.

Home made amazing coffee tables(actual beans under glass) inside the premises make you think about the origin of coffee as you are sitting down having a nice drink.

We sat outside to enjoy our coffee underneath the huge pergola with see through blinds to protect you from the weather. The place has expanded during its time in business and I predict we will see many more changes to come in the coming months. We also enjoyed a piccolo latte and flat white using the Ethiopian Blue Horse Harrar. Both were nice and really packed a punch.

Mark holds cuppings on Saturday around 2pm and everyone is welcome. This helps educate the public and also creates a greater passion towards coffee.

The Coffee Barun also has a pretty extensive ever-changing food menu on hand for those wanting breakfast or lunch and on occasion Mark roasts a lamb spit.

Also on offer are accessories, machines and grinders for the home enthusiast including a roaster, syphons, cups, tampers, aeropress, etc.

Eftpos is available and is especially handy for those spur of the moment big purchases. The Coffee Barun also has a loyalty program in place. You get a unique number that can be quoted (if your keytag is left at home) and the more you buy increases your dollar rewards, which can then go toward free coffees or bean purchases. So drop by any day of the week for your coffee needs.
