The real thing. Serious coffee for serious coffee drinkers. Made to Antipodean standards - a beacon in the City.
The place runs like a conveyor belt in the lunch hour though - be prepared to stand around for a while waiting for your coffee to come out at the end. No smiling. Staff talk to each other, if anyone.
It's a dark and gloomy space, sadly - I think it may improve when the wretched scaffolding at the front is eventually removed - which at this rate may be when Hell freezes over.
Quite a bit of seating, but little reason to stay unless it's pouring or snowing.
Finding a good coffee in London is not that easy. Finding a place that does flat white is even harder. Taylor Street Baristas does a great flat white. Staff are very efficient and quickly remember repeat customers. The loyalty card makes the coffee good value too.
Having just moved to London from Melbourne, where pouring and drinking a great coffee is in our DNA. I suddenly realized that you can't just walk into any old cafe and expect a decent latte. So for the last two mosts I have been off the coffee, until now. Taylor St is far the best coffee that I have drunk in London. This cafe has a great vibe and atmosphere. You really do feel like you could be sitting in a cafe in one of Melbourne's many lane ways.
The staff are great and the baristas really know their coffee and do some great free-pour which is the bit foreign to most London cafes.
Taylor St Barristas new location at 125 Old Broad Street. Check out their website for the others. They have carved out a great space on the ground floor of an office block. Huge open area, but still feels warm and personal. Loads more space to display their yummy food (including great muffins). Heaps of staff and they all seem to be able to pull an award winning coffee.
30 seats and the tables are not too close together. My new haunt for those work related coffee meetings.
