After walking in because it was close one day, Sam's has rapidly become my coffeeshop of choice. Sam himself consistently makes excellent coffee, and while it's true that originally some of the other staff formerly didn't make a cup to the same standard, they have since learned. I go there every morning, and don't care who is tending the coffee machine.
There's also an excellent array of pastries, sandwiches and pies, at about half the price of a regular cafe. Part of me doesn't want them to succeed to much, because then Sam himself might retire and not work there anymore. :P
Note: they ...
I almost missed this place as its not immediately obvious that its a cafe (you enter via the entrance to the IBM building), but what a find! The space is brilliant - a good mix of tables, high benches and couches - so good for a lunch meeting or after work drink. Didn't try the food, but the coffee was excellent. Good crema - nice and strong.
